The invention relates to cotton picking fingers to be used in a cotton picking machine of the suction type.
An object of the invention is to provide a cotton picking finger that picks cotton cleanly by avoiding the necessity to spin the cotton picking finger.
Another object is to provide a. cotton picking finger that is durable and inexpensive.
Other objects and advantages become apparent as the description proceeds.
I attain these objects by a device illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is anaxial, sectional view of the cotton picking finger 4 held securely by a rubber fastener 6 in the hole of a external wall I of a closed chamber whose air contents is to be continuously exhausted by a suction fan during normal operation, and
Figure 2 is an end view of same. 7
In Figure 1, there is shown the cotton picking finger 4 comprising a slender resilient, cylindrical tube of fine stainless steel spring wire of circular cross-section, coiled helically, uniformly and closely. The end of the tube 4 is formed into a fiange by coiling the wire spirally and closely to form a circular fiat flange 2 perpendicular to the axis of said tube 4. The fiange 2 is held securely by the receptacle 5 of the soft rubber fastener 6 which is fitted in the hole I of the wall I.
The receptacle 5 is adapted to receive and to hold conveniently, .detachably and snugly the flange 2 of the cotton picking finger 4. The cotton picking finger 4 hasits other end closed by the hemispherical tip 3 formed by coiling the wire hemispherically and closely. There is barely sufficient opening between the turns of the wire through which air is sucked into the tube of octton picking finger 4 and thence out of the cotton picking finger 4 through its open rear end.
Since the cotton picking finger 4 does not spin. it can pick cotton cleanly.
I claim:
1. In a cotton picking machine of the suction type, a cotton picking finger made of bare wire coiled helically to form a short resilient bare tube having a substantially closed forward end and an open rear end. I
2. In a cotton picking machine of the suction type, a cotton picking finger made of bare wire coiled helically to form a short resilient bare tube having a substantially closed forward end and also having a spiral shaped flange at its rear end formed integral therewith, said rear end being open.
