SUCTION CLOTHES BRUSH Filed Sept. 13, 1945 Hl lli Patented Apr. 24, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENTJ` OFFICE SUCTION CLOTHESBRUSH ,Agnes Lenz Schmidt, Beverly Hills, Calif. Application September 13, 1943, Serial No. 502,205
1 Claim.
My invention relates to clothes brushes, and has among its objects and advantages the provision of an improved brush of the suction cleaning type.
In the accompanying drawing: y
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a brush; Figure 2 is a bottom plan view; and Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
vIn the embodiment selected for illustration, the brush lcomlprises a body I2 to which is secured a brushunit I4, the latter comprising bristles I6 anchored in a ring I8 secured to the body I2, as by screws 2l). Body I2 is ovalshaped when viewed according to Figure 2` so as to Iprovide a brush shaped to be conveniently grasped in the hand. Brush unit I4 is similarly contoured, with the bristles I6 arranged in an oval-shaped row extending about the perimeter of the body I2. I
Body I2 is recessed at 22 for Vthe reception of a bag 24 such as is employed in conventional vacuum cleaners, with the exception of its size. Bag 24 as well as an electric motor 26 is enclosed by a cover 28 hingedly connected with the body I2 by hinges 30. A latch 32 secures the cover 28 to the body I2 in the closed position of the cover.
Centrally of the body I2 is provided a chamber 34 within which is located a fan 36 attached to the motor shaft 38. Chamber 34 has communication with the bag 24. One end of the body I2 is provided with an insulative sleeve 40 for the accommodation of the circuit wires 42, the body `being grooved at 44 to accommodate passage of the Wires to the motor.
in Width but has considerable length so as to cover a relatively Wide area.` The bristle unit I6` is in the nature of an oval-shaped ring so as` to provide a cavity having communication with the chamber 34. The length of the bristles and the ring IB space the body I2 sufliciently far from the surface being brushed to maintain communication between the entireI cavity' defined by the bristle `unit I6 and the cham# ber `34.
A closure lplate 46 extends'across the upper end of the recess 34. Air outlet openings 48 are `provided in the cover 28 so as to relieve back pressure from the bag 24.`
Without further elaboration, the foregoing will so fully illustrate my invention, that others may, by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use @under various conditions of service.
I claim:
A suction clothes brush, comprising a substantially oval-shaped body having its lowermost side provided with a concaved center portion formedwith an inlet port and a broad at face rim area about the same, ahand-palm tting upwardly arched outer smooth faced cover crowning the uppermost side of the body for access to its interior and marginally flush v concealed bythe cover, Aand having a bladed fan wheel next to the said port, la dust collector bag removably secured to the fanand detachably confined in the body by said cover', and a In addition to performing the functions of flat faced ring-like bristle unit marginally free and completely overlying the rim area throughout its broad face and wholly outside of the concaved` center portion, and fasteners securing the rim area and unit together at points innermost to the lay of the bristles of the latter.
