A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved hair comb of the self cleaning type which is very simple in construction, which is easy to manipulate. and which is neatv in appearance. n

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved self-cleaning hair'comb which is very inexpensive to manufacture,l which is very compact in size, and which is provided with means for dispensing .hair lotion or otherhairtreating fluid during the use of the comb.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an improved, self-cleaning hair comb constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a transverse, vertical, cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the comb of Figure 1 shown in normal, released position;

Figure 4 is a fragmentary, perspective, sectional view of one of the plate elements of the comb of Figure l;

Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 2, the comb teeth being shown in spaced apart relationship corresponding to the positions of said teeth during use of the comb;

Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view talren on line 6-6 of Figure 3, showing the comb teeth in aligned position.

Referring to the drawings, the comb is generally designated at II, said comb comprising a pair of longitudinally extending, rectangular plate members I2 and I3 of suitable iiexible material, such as elastic plastic material. secured together in face to face relation at their upper longitudinal margin portions and being cemented together as at I4. The lower portions of the plate members I2 and I3 are formed with coplanar laterally offset equally spaced, substantially parallel, straight, depending teeth shown at I5 and I6, the teeth of the one plate member being staggered longitudinally with respect to the teeth of the other plate member. It is to be noted that the teeth of the plate members I2 and I3 are inwardly offset in opposite lateral directions with respect to the plate members, thereby enabling the teeth of one plate member to be moved relative to the teeth of the other plate memberbv dering thalwrw tions of the plate members inwardly towardeach other. In using the comb, the divergent lower portions oi the plate members are manually pressed together, whereby the ngers I5 and I6 are separated and are arranged in staggered relation, as shown in Figure 5, and whereby the comb may be drawn through the hair to perform the desired combing operation. If desired, a piece of wool or flannel, saturated with hair treatment liquid, may be placed in the cavity I1, whereby said liquid will be applied to the hair during the combing operation, the liquid being squeezed out through the space between the depending comb teeth by the pressure applied to the divergent portions of the plate members.

After the combing operation, the comb teeth may be cleaned by merely releasing the pressure on the lower divergent portions of the plate members, whereby the plate members will ex toward the positions of Figure 3, the comb teeth moving past each other and removing any loose material therefrom. The comb teeth may be cleaned thoroughly by exing the lower portions of the plate members inwardly several times, whereby this material, such as loose hairs, dandrui, and the like, is rubbed off the comb teeth by their movements past each other.

While a specic embodiment of an improved self-cleaning comb has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A self-cleaning comb comprising a pair of exible plate members secured together in face to face relation at their upper marginal portions,v the lower portions of the plate members being coplanar laterally offset equally spaced, substantially parallel, straight, depending teeth carried by each plate member, the teeth of one plate member being staggered longitudinally with respect to the teeth of the other plate member andthe teeth of the respective plate members being inwardly offset in opposite lateral directions with respect to the respective plate members, wherebyv the teeth of one plate member may be movedA relative to the teeth of the other plate member by ilexing the lower portions of the plate members inwardly towards each other.

A self-cleaning comb comprising a pair of flexible plate members secured together in face to face relation at their upper longitudinal marginal portions, the lower portions of the plate members being movable towards each other, laterally offset equally spaced, substantially parallel, straight depending teeth carried by each plate member, the teethof one plate member being staggered longitudinally'with respect to the teeth of the other plate member and the teeth of the respective plate members being inwardly offset in opposite lateral directions with respect to said plate members, whereby the teeth of one plate member may be moved relative toV the teeth 'of the other plate member by ilexing thelower portions of the plate members inwardly RErEltENCEs CITED The follcwing references arev of record in the file of this patent:
