The present invention relates to barbers and beauticians supplies and has more specific reference to a customers neck duster of an inexpensive throw-away type which lends itself aptly to single use on an individual customer in a manner proposed by others and now commonly referred to as single service hair dusters.

By way of further explanation, it is a matter of common knowledge that in the ordinary or average barbers or beauticians shop, a permanent hair dusting brush with expensive soft bristles is customarily used. Of late, however, a number of persons have offered single service hair clusters, which, generally, are made up of a cheap disposal paper stock, which will not stand up when put in service, for example, when a customer is wet with perspiration, or when his skin is damp or wet. These are so-called individual sanitary neck clusters and some may, perhaps, be in actual use.

Inasmuch, however, as much actual use, if any, is evidently limited, I am inclined to believe that there is still need for a suitably constructed and eilicient disposable type hair duster. In the circumstances, it is my objective here to bring into use a neck duster in the category under advisement, in which, due to its paper-quality and construction, manufacturers and users will find their needs and requirements fully met, contained and advantageously available.

Other objects and advantages may become apparent from the following description and accompanying drawings.

In the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a perspective view, with a portion broken away, of a barbers-type neck duster constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a section on the vertical line 2--2 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;

and,

Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the head of the duster or brush is made up.

The improved neck dusting brush which I have invented is essentially made up of two units;

namely, a handle unit 5 and a head unit 6, the

1 Claim. (Cl, -226) tor 8. The latter is slightly wider than the han dle proper, and in general, rectangular in form as shown primarily in dotted lines in Figure 1. The head unit is of soft textured paper of good quality used by barbers for neck wrapping prior to applying the usual apron or hair cloth. What I am interested in is a paper which is sufficiently durable, of requisite nicety and softness, adaptability and which is preferably water-repellent. The paper should be such that it may be thrown away or disposed of on an economical basis. The disposable paper head 6 is slitted to form a plurality of dusting ribbons as denoted by the numerals 9. More specifically, I take a rectangular blank or piece of paper of the quality desired and divide it by a lengthwise score or fold line It] into complemental upper and lower half-sections H and l2. Then, the mating longitudinal edge portions of thehalf sections are split to form the fringe-like ribbons or fringed edge portions and the two halves are folded over, one upon the other. Now, we have a blank one half that as shown in Figure 3 but which is made up of two plies. Next, the thus doubled halves are again doubled upon themselves on the line A-A so that the two double ply halves are on opposite sides of the cardboard adaptor 8 and are denoted by the numerals l3 and I4. These halves are secured by wire or equivalent staples [5, thus making the complete dusting brush.

Novelty is predicated upon a cardboard or equivalent suitably shaped handle with a fiat adaptor and with the double ply paper portions l3 and I4 wrapped around same and riveted thereto and slitted to provide the desired ribbonlike bristles. Thus, I have devised a unique disposable-type barbers neck duster having the details of construction herein shown and described and believe that my contribution is doubtless novel in this specific line of endeavor.

It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.

Minor changes in the shape, size and arrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice if desired.

Having described the claimed as new is:

A throw-away neck duster for individual customer use in barber shops and the like and comprising a fiat piece of cardboard marginally invention, what is 3 stamped out to provide an elongated handle and a relatively wide rectangular adapter head at one end of said handle, and a paper-stock duster, said duster being a rectangular blank of soft, water repellent paper, said blank being longitudinally and centrally folded upon itself into duplicate opposed halves and said folded halves being then transversely and centrally folded intermediate their respective ends and upon themselves into quarter components, which are, in turn, wrapped around said adapter head and stapled thereto, corresponding edge portions of said components projecting well beyond an adjacent marginal edge of said adapter head and all being slitted and defining a multiplicity of dusting ribbons.
