WILLIAM H. CHAPMAN, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT.
GAG-RUNNER- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,482, dated June 13, 1882.
Application filed April 12, 1892. (No mode To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WlLLIAM H. CHAPMAN, of Middletown, in the county ofMiddlesex and State ofOonneoticut, haveinvented a new and Improved Gag-Runner, of which the following is afnll, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to avoid chafing of the check-rein in the gag-runners.
The invention consists in a gag-runner constructed with a swinging loop pivoted to or swiveled on a bridge of the frame through which the strap is passed, which bridge is provided with a spur projecting from its under side into the strap for holding the gag-runner on the strap.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved gag runner. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same, showing the manner in which it is held to the strap.
The loop A, through which the check-rein is to pass, is swiveled upon or pivoted to the bridge or supportB of the curved frame 0, so that this loop can swing on this frame, whereby undue chafing and rubbing of the checkreins by the loop A is avoided. The loop A can be swiveled or pivoted in any suitable manner and need not necessarily be swiveled in the manner shown. A spur, D, projects from the bottom of the bridge B, which spur can be made integral with the loop A, or can be made as a part of the bridge B.
To secure the gag-runner on a strap, E, this strap is passed longitudinally through the frame 0 and under the bridge B, and the spur D is passed through an aperture in the strap, as shown in Fig. 1.
I am aware that it is not broadly new to swivel a gag-runner; and I am also aware that a gag-runner provided with a frame and spur and a fixed loop has been patented by W. M. Blaine on December 20, 1881; and therefore I do not claim such; but,
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The combination, with the curved frame 0, having the central perforated bridge, B, of the loop A, provided with the spur D at its upper end, passing through the perforation of the frame and a hole in the bridle, whereby a single spur serves the double purpose of securing the loop to the frame and the frame to the bridle, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM HENRY C H APMAN.
