CORNICE CONSTRUCTION Filed May 28, 1949 I INVENTOR. 124510 a? MAZCAUQDJ Patented Mar. 25, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE OORNICE CONSTRUCTION Dario S. Malchiodi, New York, N. Y.
Application May 28, 1949, Serial No. 96,097
(Cl. ISO-39) 2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a cornice construction.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cornice construction wherein the same cornice can be used for different width windows and easily adjusted and installed by the housewife, the adjustment being effective to adapt the cornice to the different windows and the adjustment effected by merely loosening thumb nuts on the screws, the cornice construction being adapted to cover up the upper end of the drapes over the windows.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a cornice construction which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to adjust, compact, has a minimum number of parts, easy ,to install and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the cornice construction lying above a drape over a window on a wall of a room.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the cornice.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the cornice as shown in Fig. 4 with portions thereof being shown in section.
Fig. 41s a rear elevational view of thecornice.
Referring now to the figures, 10 represents generally the cornice construction embodying the features of the present invention. This cornice construction comprises wing parts I l and I2 and a central part [3 to which the wing parts are adjustably connected. Each of these parts have curved lower edges, as indicated generally at M. The central part [3 has a back piece l5 extending vertically in the center thereof and to this piece there is connected by screws IS, a slotted piece IT. This piece has two slots 18 and I9 at each end thereof and between this piece and the center member l3 there are slidably connectedthe wings. The wings are held in their adjusted positions by bolts 2| and wing nuts 22. These bolts do not extend through the front or center part 13, but are merely carried upon the slotted piece IT.
A drape 23 can be located behind the cornice with the cornice fixed upon the top of the window by any suitable means, not shown. The fixing can be effected with screws or can be extended onto projections extending outwardly from the wall, the construction having elements adapted to unite with the projections whereby the same will be supported above the window.
It will be apparent that these wing portions can be adjusted inwardly and outwardly for the different width Windows to which the cornice is to be applied. This can be done effectively by the housewife. The center portion l3 and the wing portions can be covered with wall paper, painted or otherwise decorated so that it will have a pleasing appearance. The decoration can be properly selected to blend with the wall surface and with the drapes.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
1. A cornice construction comprising a center portion, a vertically extending piece secured to the center portion, a slotted elongated piece secured transversely of and to the vertical piece, said slotted elongated piece having parallel slots and wing cornice members extending between the slotted elongated piece and the center portion to be guided and retained by the same and clamping bolt fasteners extending through the wing portions and the slots of the slotted elongated piece.
2. A cornice construction comprising a center structure, a slotted elongated piece secured longitudinally of and to the center structure, said slotted, elongated piece having parallel slots, wing cornice members extendin between the slotted elongated piece and the center structure to be guided and retained by the same, fastening means extending through the wing members and the slots of the slotted elongated piece.
