This invention relates to suspending arrangement for window curtains :including roller mounted suspension means with readily attachable curtain'gripping jaws by which thecurtain is supported for easy and convenient manipulation to cover'or'clear the window opening.

Heretofore many difierentproposals have been Jmade for hanging curtains on supporting rods or vantages of the prior art devices, both as to convenience in hanging the curtains and secure gripping thereof without danger of tearing, by providing a suspension arrangement including spring closed gripping jaw members which are individually attached to the curtain and individually separably engaged with suspension members slidably supported by a head rod or track.

The details of construction of the suspension arrangement according to the invention will be apparent by reference to the following detailed specification and the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof and in which:

Fig. 1 is a section through a supporting track with a suspension arrangement embodying the invention mounted therein, parts of the latter being in section,

Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the gripping jaws on line 44 of Fig. 1, and

Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.

Referring now more particularly to thQ'drawings, I is a supporting bracket adapted to be secured to the top of a window frame and including a box section track 2 having a central slot 3 in the bottom wall thereof. The suspension members each consist of a pair of rollers 4 within the track 2 connected by an axle pin 5 on which a plate-like suspension member 6 is hung so as to extend through the slot in the track. The suspension plate is provided on opposite sides with horizontal prooves 1 and is tapered below the grooves as indicated at 8.

Individual curtain clamping members are provided, each .consisting of a pair of jaw members 9, preferably of channel shape in .cross section and formed with overlapping ears IO pivoted together'by a pivot pin H. The jaw members "9 are formed with curtain gripping lower ends 12 between which the upper edge of the curtain is clamped. The lower ends 12 ofthe jaws 'fl'are resiliently held together by flat spring members l3 disposed within the channel shaped jaws and having one end thereof 'securedtothe jaws adjacent the lower end thereof such as by passing the end of each spring through a slot 14 in the bottom wall of the channel forming the jaws, well below the pivot l I.

Each of the spring members l3 extends upwardly within the jaws to a point above the pivot H where they are curved inwardly toward each other to form reentrant curves IS in opposed confronting relation centrally above the pivot ll so as to bear against the groove 1 and bias the jaws to closed position.

The curtain clamping members are detachably secured to the suspending members by forcing the tapered end 8 of the depending plate 6 between the inturned upper ends l5 of the springs l3 until the latter snap into the grooves 1.

In the use of the arrangement, the required number of gripping members are clamped along the upper edge of the curtain to be hung by pressing the upper ends of the jaws together to spread the lower gripping ends which are slipped over the edge of the curtain to grip the same between them when the upper ends are released. The curtain is then hung by pushingthe gripping members against the lower edges the suspension plates to engage the latter between the upper ends of the springs, as previously described, the grip of the springs in the grooves I being sufiicient to resist separation by any ordinary pull on the curtain. The spreading of the upper ends of the springs by the plates 6 also increases the closing tension of the springs on the lower ends of the jaws, thereby tightening the grip thereof on the curtain which has previously been inserted between them.

While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described by way of illstration, it will be understood that variation in the details of construction of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.

Iclaim:

1. suspending arrangement for curtains and the like comprising a pair of jaw members pivoted together and forming curtain gripping elements below the pivot, a flat elongated spring member secured at one end to each of said jaw members below the pivot thereof, each sprin member extending above the pivot and curved inwardly into opposed confronting relation with respect to the other to bias the jaws to closed position, and a suspension member having a depending portion engaged between the confrontin portions of the spring members to mount the jaw members on said suspension member and increase the closing tension of the springs on the Jaws.

2. suspending arrangement for curtains and the like comprising a pair of jaw members pivoted together and forming curtain gripping elements below the pivot, a fiat elongated spring member secured at one end to each of said jaw members below the pivot thereof, each spring member extending above hte pivot and curved inwardly into opposed confronting relation with respect to the other to bias the jaws to closed position, and a suspension member having a depending portion provided with a head at the lower end thereof engaged between the confronting portions of the spring members to mount the jaw members on said suspension member.

3. suspending arrangement for curtains and .the like comprising a pair of jaw members pivhead portion resiliently clamped between the confronting coiled portion of said spring members to releasably mount said jaw members on said suspension members.
