TOY MUSICAL WHEEL.
No. 258,771. Patented May 30, 1882.
Nine TATES ATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS KYSER AND ALFRED G. REX, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY MUSICAL WH EEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,771, dated May 30, 1882. Application filed December 31, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LOUIS KYSER and ALFRED O. REX, both of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Toy Musical Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to toys in which a wheel adapted to be pushed along the ground causes a bell to ring; and our invention consists in inclosing a wheel having a series of striking-pins in a frame attached to a stick or rod; and, further,in mounting a bell or alarm upon said frame at the top, and arranging a spring-hammer also upon said frame and in such a position that the striking-pins on the wheelwill cause the said hammer to vibrate and strike the bell; further, in so constructing the frame that when it is put together it forms a core for the propelling stick or rod and also firmly holds the bell or gong in position; and, finally,in minor details of construction, all of which are fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, which form part thereof.
The object of our invention is to construct a toy which may be either pushed before or drawn after the child, and in which a rotating wheel shall cause a continuous ringing of the bell; also, in so constructing the same that it can be quickly and cheaply put together and at the same time be ornamental in design.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved toy. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of same on line 00 w, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 11 y.
A is the wheel, preferably made of cast-iron, with its axle cast integral with it, and provided with striking-pins M upon itsspokes or rim. This wheel is held between the frame-plates B, which are two in number and are riveted together at two or more places, F, so as to pivot the wheelAbetween them. These plates B consist of a side bar, B, and a curved bar, B having the same curvature as the wheel A. These plates, when riveted together, form a socket, E, for the reception of the handle G at one end of bars B, the other ends being shaped to form a figure, D, of a man or animal.
The tops of the curved barsB form a hollow hub, H, which is adapted to firmly clasp a nut, J, on the bottom of support, to which the hell I is secured by an ornamental nut, L.
Secured to the frameB is a spring-hammer,
N, which is vibrated and caused to strike the bell L by the pins Mon the wheel A as the latter is pushed along the ground and rotated.
By this construction no core-boxes are necessary, and the bell is secured to the frame without screw-bolts or their equivalent. I
Having now described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A wheel supported in a metal frame consisting of a horizontal bar and a curved bar at top, inclosing the upper part of said wheel, and provided with striking-pins and adapted to be propelled along the ground, in combination with a bell held rigidly upon said frame, and a spring-hammer rigidly secured at its bottom to said frame and adapted to be vibrated by said striking-pins to cause the bell to ring, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A wheel, A,provided with pins M, in combination with a frame, B, carrying at the top a bell and on one end a core, E, handle G, and spring-hammer N, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. A whee], A, in combination with a frame, B, composed of two pieces, riveted together at F, each of said pieces being formed with a. hollow part to form core E, a side bar, B, to carry the wheel A, and curved parts which, when the frame is riveted together, form an arch or curved part, B over the upper half of the wheel, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
4. The combination of wheel A, having striking-pins M, frame B, having core E, figure D, hollow hub H, support J, with its nut L,bell I, spring-hammer N, and handle or rod G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
5. The wheel A, in combination with a frame. B, provided with hollow hub H, figure D, and hollow core E,substantially as and for the purpose specified.
6. The wheel A,in combination with aframe, B, having side bars, B ,and top curved bar, B and figure D, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v
In testimonyot' which invention we hereunto set our hands.
LOUIS KYSER. ALFRED G. REX.
