H. A. BOWNE.
BILLIARD CUE.
No. 258,702. Patented May 30, 1882.
UNITED STATES. PA ENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. BOWNE, OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY.
BlLLlARD-CUE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,702, dated' May 30, 1882.
Application filed June 24, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that], HENRY A. BOWNE, of Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Billiard-Cues, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view of a cue equipped with my improved tip, and Fig. 2 is aperspective View of the tip.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved billiard-cue tip so constructed that it can be readily attached to any one.
The cue-tip as now manufactured is readily damaged, and I have therefore provided a ferrule-formed tip to be placed over the end. This tip is made preferably of gutta-percha, haidened to the proper temperament; or it may be made of celluloid, or other like material, the design so far as the material is concerned being merely to select that which is most serviceable and easily manufactured.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
A represents the billiard-cue, and B a ferrule adapted to be placed over the end of the one. The lower end of the ferrule is closed and has a thick head, 0, to prevent damage to the end of the ferrule. The head or tip 0 and ferrule B are made of one piece. When the ferrule is fitted upon the one it will, by its contractile power, hold the device firm in this position. The outer side of the head may be slightly rounded or formed in any suitable shape.
A cue thus equipped will be serviceable, and always maintain an even point or end.
Havingdescribed my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In combination with the one A, the tip G, having an elastic ferrule, B, said tip and ferrule being made of one and the same piece, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
HENRY A. BOWNE.
