Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JNO. G. BAKER, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OE COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ASA L. CARRIER, OE SAME PLACE.
ROD OF WINDOW-BLINDS.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN G. BAKER, of the city of Vashington, District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metallic Rods to Connect and Operate Movable Slats for Vindow-Blinds;
'and the following is an eXact description of the same, reference being had to the acconr panying drawings, and the letters marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in using cheap thin sheet metal, such as Zink, tin, sheet-iron, or any base metal, forming it into small tubes, the edges coming together in such manner as to leave small ears at suitable distances, with a hole through each to connect with the slats by staples or in any suitable manner.
To enable others skilled in the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe it more fully, referring to the drawing &c.
The frame (A) represents the Stiles to an inside or outside movable blind, in which the slats (al, a2, a3, &c.) are pivoted in the usual way. For convenience it is set upright on a base (B) and held together at the top by a cross bar (O), so as to show clearly the connecting of the rod and the operation of the slats.
(D) is a small tube formed of very thin sheet metal, the two edges brought closely together, and turned out, so as to leave a narrow rib, (03,) out of which a series of small ears (e, e, e, e, Sac.) each having a hole through it to receive the ring or staple (f) bly which means -it is attached securely to the s ats.
The advantages of my invention over any before known or used is that it can be made smaller and lighter and much more durable than any wood rod, not liable to break, or bend, or in any way become detached by the rings or staples drawing out, and furthermore it can be made and attached one third cheaper than any other.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is- The peculiar construction of thin metallic tubes, the two edges so forming the ears or rings (e e e) in combination with wire staples or rings to connect wood slats for mov able blinds, substantially as set forth.
JOHN Gr. BAKER.
