JUDSON L. THOMSON, OF` SYRAOUSE, NEW YORK.
PANTALo'oN-PRO-recrea.r
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,154, dated May 1,6, 1882, Application filed January 3,1885?. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.- Be it known that I, JUDsoN L. THOMSON, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in PantaloonProtectors, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to pantaloon-protectors designed more particularly to be applied Vto rubber shoes; and it consists in a novel construction of the device and means ot' attaching the same to the rubber shoe, as hercinat'ter fully explained.
'In' the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is arear View of a rubber shoe with my invention aptector turned up and out ofthe way, as is desired when the same is not required for use g and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section ot' the same, showing the invention in position for use.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
c is a metal plate, of proper size and shape to tit neatly to the back ofthe heel ofthe rnbber. Said plate is provided with a loop, b, lwhich I form by bending a portion'ot said plate tubular shape. On said loop b is hinged an elastic arm, d, in the form of a wire bail, which passes through the loop. The ends ot' the loop are provided with ashoulder, @formed by lateral extensions ot the ends of that portion of the plate a which is bent to form the loop. Said shoulders o, passing under the side bars ot' the bail d, serve to cause-the arm or baiLd to `spring back into horizontal position in case the same has been accidentallystraned below said position.
The described pantaloon protector is Y attached to the rubber shoe by placing the plate a. in its requisite position on the counteror back part of the rubber shoe, and applying to the inside of the same, directly opposite the plate a, a washer, o, having studs or rivets r, which pass through the back of the rubber shoe and through holes in the plate a, and are clinched or upset upon the latter. It desired,
the washer o, as well as the plate a, may be provided with holes for the reception of separate rivets, in which case said rivets are clinched or upset at both ends. lhe base of the plate nl provide with a step, s, in the form of a horizontal projection, which serves as a means for applying the toe of one foot in drawing the rubber shoe oft' the other foot.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A pantaloon-protector consisting essentially ot' a plate adapted to be secured to the back ot' a rubbershoe, and aspring-arm hinged on said plate and restrained from undue de tlection belowa horizontal position bya shoul der on the attaching-plate, substantially as set forth.
l2. The combination of the plate ci, formed with the loop b, and with the lateral extension o on the ends of said loop, the wire bail d, hinged in the loop b and restrained from deiiect-ing below a horizontal position by the eX- tensions o aforesaid, and the washer o and attaching-stud `r, all as shown and described.
3. The combination ot' the plate ci, provided with the step s and with the loop b, the shoulders c, the bail d, hinged on the said loop, and the washer o, provided with iivets r, all as shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my naine and aftixed my seal, in the presence ot' two attestin g witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this 30th day of December, 1881.
