An object of the invention' is-to provide'a post to'- be set up in front ofpremises, asth'oseofa farmer" or vegetable gardener, to detachably carry a plurality of small signs, advertising produ'cts or-servi-ces available at'such premises.

Another objectis to-adapt sucha postto carry the" advertisement of some concern sponsoring installation' of'thesign posts.

Another object isto'provide spring means for retaining a plurality of small signs inserted'in sockets formed ina post which detachably car'- riessuch signs.

These and-various other obj'ectsare attained by the construction hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 1 is a front view of my improved post.

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the post taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Fig. 4 is a front view of one of the signs detachably mounted on the post.

Fig. 5 is a cross section taken on the line 55 of Fig. 2.

In these views, the reference character I designates the elongated anchoring lower member of the improved post, such member being preferably of wood and set a suitable distance into the ground. Secured to the top face of the member I is the base 2 of a vertically elongated frame, the illustrated securing means being a lag screw 3. Said base is horizontally elongated and has a pair of wooden uprights 4 and 5 secured to its end faces. Formed in the upright 4 is a row of vertically spaced square sockets 6 for receiving the elongated squared shanks I of a plurality of signs 8, adapted to project laterally from the post. The several shanks I are adapted to enter vertically spaced grooves 9 in a board ill fitted against and secured to the upright 4 and surmounted by a frame member ll secured between said uprights. The shanks 1 project slightly from the grooves 9 for engagement by a clamping board l2 urged toward the board I by a pair of coiled springs l3. Said springs are mounted on bolts 14 fixed in the board Ill, such bolts slidingly sup-porting the clamping board l2. A sheet metal sign member 15 of arched form is fitted over the described frame, its margins being nailed or otherwise fastened to the uprights 4 and 5. The upper or yoke portion of the member l has convergent sides meetingin a ridge to readily shed water. 7

What I claim is:

l. In a sign post;.a pairv of: spaced: uprights,

one of whichis'formed with a row of-verti'cally spaced apertures; a plurality of' sign members laterally projecting from the apertured upright.

and disposed one above another and having elongated supporting shanks extending from their ends adjoining the apertured upright and removably inserted in said apertures, and spring means between said uprights for gripping said shanks to yieldably resist removal of the sign members.

2. In a sign post as set forth in claim 1, a pair of vertically elongated sign members bridged across and spaced apart by the uprights.

3. In a sign post as set forth in claim 1, a member formed of sheet material arched to fit over said uprights and forming a pair of substantially parallel panels spaced apart by the uprights.

4. In a sign post, a vertically elongated memberhaving a row of vertically spaced grooves formed in one of its lateral faces, a plurality of sign members disposed one above another at one side of said grooved member and having elongated supporting shank-s removably fitted in said grooves, a presser plate bearing on the several shanks to yieldably retain them in said grooves, and a spring means urging the presser plate against said shanks.

5. In a sign post as set forth in claim 4, a pin carried by said grooved member and extending through said presser plate, said spring means comprising a spring coiled on said pin and bearing on the presser plate.

In a'sign post, a pair of spaced uprights, one of which is formed with a row of vertically spaced apertures, a plurality of sign members laterally projecting from theapertured upright and disposed one above another and having elongated supporting shanks extending from their ends adjoining the apertured upright and removably inserted in said apertures, a member fitted between said uprights and formed with a row of vertically spaced grooves substantially aligned with said apertures and removably receiving said shanks, a presser plate adjoining and confronting said grooves and disposed between said uprights, and spring means urging the presser plate against said shanks to yieldably resist removal of the signs.

In a sign post, a sheet of material bent to an arched form to provide spaced substantially parallel portions to receive advertisements, a vertically elongated support fitted between said parallel portions, means rigidly securing said arched sheet to said support, and a plurality of sign members disposed at one side of said arched member, between the extended planes of said parallel portions, and at dififerent levels, each of said members having a shank detachably engaged with said support and a common means for imposing on all of said shanks a spring pressure resisting their detachment from said support.

8. A sign post as set forth in claim 7, said support having sockets receiving said shanks.

9. In a sign post, a vertically elongated member having a row of vertically spaced grooves formed in one of its lateral faces, a plurality of separately formed sign members disposed one above another at one side of said grooved member and having elongated supporting shanks removably fitted in said grooves, said shanks and grooves being conformingly shaped to restrain the shanks from rotation, a presser plate elongated to engage the several shanks, for yieldably retaining them in the grooves, and a plurality of vertically spaced springs urging the presser plate against the shanks.

10. In a changeable sign structure, the combination with a plurality of sign members similarly formed at corresponding ends with reduced projecting supporting shanks, of a support for said members elongated transversely of said shanks and having one of its faces transversely formed with grooves spaced longitudinally of said support to respectively removably receive the respective shanks, a presser plate confronting said grooved face and engaging said shanks, and means yieldably pressing the plate against the shanks to predeterminedly resist removal of the several shanks, the shanks and grooves having a cross sectional form resisting rotation of the shanks.
