Description

Fab 26 1924 0 lfir fi I v c. L, TERRY SIGNPOST Filed July 27 1923 WITNESSES CL 1;] VEN TOR I l ERR) I, l/ V J ATTORNEYS Patented F sh 26,, W240 CUR'I LINDSEY TERRY, OF EL PASO, TEXAS.
SIGNPOST.
Application filed July 27, 1923. Serial No. 654,235.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Cnnr LINDSEY TERRY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of E Paso, in the county of El Paso and .5 State of Texas, have invented certain new re posts and has for its object the provision of a combined advertising sign and direction guide post for use along highways, bearing indicia as to direction and distance to a nearby town and also provided with advertising space.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a sign post provided with advertising panels so constructed as to provide a minimum of space to be acted on by the 29 w nd whereby the structure is relieved of damage. during wind storms.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a simple and eiiicient structure adapted to support remcvably mounted advertising panels.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description in view of the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification; nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications, which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
in the drawings:
Figure l is a view in perspective of the completed advertising post in position.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view in perspective of the post stripped of its advertising panels.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a concrete base member located in the ground adjacent the road crossing and into which is fixed the lower circular end 2 of a post. The upper end 3 of the post, which contains the advertising panels and the directional indicia, is constructed of angle iron formation having a rib 4 disposed upon its rear face and centrally of the member 3.
Secured to the extreme upper end of the portion 3 of the post is a transverse bar 5 having its ends 6 sheared off at an angle to conform to the sides of the triangular shaped panel 7. The panel is provided with perforations 8 in alinement with perforations 9 in the transverse bar 5 and adapted to receive threaded bolts for removably locking the panel to the bar 5. Another perforation 10 is provided in the angle iron portion 3 of the post above a second transverse bar 11 and adapted to aline with a perforation 12 at the apex of the triangular panel 7. A threaded bolt passes through the alined perforations 10 and 12 to lock the lower end of the panel 7 to the post.
A second advertising panel 7 is secured .to the transverse bar 11 in a manner similar to the securing of the panel 7 to the bar 5. The panels 7 and 7 may be removed by the removal of the bolts 13 and other advertising matter be painted on said panels. It is intended that the space on the panels be rented for advertising purposes.
The transverse bar 14: located below the apex of the panel 7*- is adapted to contain indicia for directing travellers as to the next town and the mileage from the crossing to said town. The bar may contain any other directional indicia which will be helpful to travellers.
The panels 7 and '2' are of triangular shape and are so constructed to reduce the surface which is presented to the wind and thereby prevent the post supporting the panels from being sheared off in wind storms.
What I claim is:
A device of the character described comprising a post having a cylindrical portion adapted to be set in a concrete base and a fiat portion projecting above the circular portion provided with a rib at its rear face, transverse bars secured to the flat face of the post in spaced relation, triangular panels removably connected to the transverse bars, said bars having their ends sheared off coincident to the inclination of the sides of the panels, and a bar secured transversely to the flat portion of the post and below the panels providing means for displaying directional indicia.
CURT LINDSEY TERRY.
