` The present invention relates to signs intended for outdoor"advertising, and the pri- *maryA object of the 'invention'is to providek an improved advertising sign particularly 5 well adapted for use by realestate agents.
' The type of sign nowl in generaljuse by real estate agents for advertising'purposes,-
embody wooden signs which are nailed upon' stakes which haveto 'bedriven into the ground forl supportingof the sign. Such signs are extremely 'culmsy and difficult to setup owing to the fact that ready driving of the stake cannotbe readily accomplished without liability of defacing the sign. Such type of signs cannot be'easily transported, Y and if stored in any considerable number, require much space. f
A further object of the invention therefore is to provide an improved advertising sign of this character which may be readily separated from its supporting standards, and thus transported easily and when stored will not occupy vany considerable'amount ofl space; Y A further object of the invention is to provide a sign embodying uprights or posts for detachably receiving the sign proper, and which uprights are so formed that the same may be driven into the ground and then the sign proper associated with the upper ends thereof regardless as to whether the posts have been driven in proper spaced relation or whether the posts have/been driven into the ground'in a perfectly vertical position. v Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing Figure 1 is a rear plan view of the improved sign and showing the same in position upon its uprights.` the lower portions of the uprights being broken away.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the showing in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear plan view of the sign, showing the uprights or posts driven into the ground in spaced relation, and showing the sign proper in position ready to be slipped over the upper ends of the uprights. y Figure t is anenlarged fragmentary section showing the manner of securing the sign proper to the uprights.
In the drawing, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several -viewsfl() may designate a` sign board ofA any desired'size and contiguratioinand which may have provided on its vfront face 11`,"f'a'ny suitable advertisiiig matter in a'ccordancevith thevu'se tofwhich the sign is ,intended 'fk The sign board 10 is preferably" made of metal, and if desirable a suitable framelinaywbe provided at the front face of the 'sign'.board. f i' i 'Secured in any suitablemanner to the rear 'face ofthe'sign board 10, and spaced' a suitable ldistanceapart, are metallic sockets 1K2 each provided with round bores 13 opening at the lower ends of the sockets and yclosed at their. upper ends by the top walls 14h These sockets 12 may be of any suitable length, and are preferably formed with the marginal fiange portions 15 for providing ablyY consists of steel rods sharpened into e points 17 at their' lower ends and having their opposite or upper ends slightly tapered as at 18. The pointed ends 17 are to permit of ready driving of the posts into the ground, while the slightly tapered ends 18 yand one of will facilitate placing of the sign board in l proper relation to the posts after the" same have been driven intoy the ground, since the tapered portions` will act to guide the upper ends of the `posts into the bores of the sockets in case the exact spacing of the post does .not coincide with the spacing of the sockets. By so tapering the upper'ends of thev posts as at 18, a'further advantage will be gained in that if the extreme'upper ends of the posts are -burred over asin Figure 4, and which burring may be caused by the use of a hammer or otherv tool usedfor driving the posts intothe ground, such will not prevent the sign from being disposed upon the upper 'end'of the post. v
It is preferred, as'before stated, that the sockets 12 be, spaced relativelyr close, since such would permit of a person when driving the post 16` to better gauge the distance between the posts and thus driving Vthevpost in spaced relation substantially equal to the l v lo distanceV between the sockets 112. [As v-vvill abe observed v-in l Figure -3, should 'one' of Athe posts be driven at an incline as illustrated, the tapered upper :endsslcSJ-williaid -nguidling the posts into the sockets and which inclined position of the post would create a binding action in the bore of :the socketand serve to better'hold the sign "board in position upon the post.
fFrom` the foregoing description .uit willk e the sign when erecting `the sign.
