Das Merkzeichen besteht aus einer eisernen Röh.re a, welche im Boden befestigt wird. Bei lockerem oder nassem Untergrund wird diese Röhre einfach mit einem Hammer oder einer Handramme eingetrieben, so dafs sie auf gewisse Höhe die Bodenfläche überragt. Bei steinigem Untergrund wird auf geringe Tiefe ein Bohrloch hergestellt, in welches die Röhre a eingesenkt und befestigt wird, sei es mit Erde, Sand oder Betonmörtel. Ist die Röhre α im Boden befestigt, so wird ein Holzstück bezw. ein Holzpfropfen b eingepafst, welcher auf die gewünschte Visirhöhe abgeschnitten wird, und bei f (Fig. 3 und 4) angenagelt. Ueber diesen Holzpfropfen b wird ein eiserner Mantel c gestellt, welcher im Ausführungsbeispiel Dreieckquerschnitt besitzt und mit Ausschnitten versehen ist, in welche die mit Buchstaben, Ziffern und dergl. versehenen Zeichentafeln e eingesteckt werden. Zu diesem Zweck empfiehlt es sich, die Nuthen für die Zeichentafeln schwalbenschwanzförmig auszuführen, wie Fig. 4 zeigt.The mark consists of an iron Röh.re a, which is attached to the ground.
