1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK M. WRIGHT, OF PALMYBA, NEW YORK.
BOSOM-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,805, dated May 9, 1882.
Application filed March 2, 1882. (ModeLl certain means whereby the bosom may be conveniently and smoothly stretched and held while being ironed, so as to prevent wrinkles, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of the board, showing the parts detached; and Fig. 2, a longitudinal sectional view of the board with the parts in position.
The letter A indicates a rectangular frame, and B atlat board adapted to fit thereon, over which the bosomistobestretched, thesaid board being covered with a suitable fabric to form a proper surface upon which the bosom may be pressed. The board at its upper end is provided with rounded shoulders a, and its sides are beveled outwardly from the top to the bottom, the inner. sides of the frame being reversely beveled, and sufficient space is left between the board and frame to permit the fabric of the shirt to be properly clamped between the two. The upper end of the board is also provided with an extension, I), the upper portion of which is cut away, forming an undercutor beveled recess, (1, in the extension, which extends transversely across said extension.
The flat portion or upper face of the extension (indicated by the letter c) is adapted to fit in the recess 6 at the upper end of the frame A, the undercut recess d, fitting over the beveled inner edge, g, of the cross-bar h of the frame, permitting the top of the board to come flush with the top of the frame.
The operation of myinvention is as follows: The board is placed inside of the shirt, under the bosom, in such manner that the extension will project through the opening at the neck, the shoulders of the shirt setting over the shoulders of the board, and the fabric ofthe shirt falling around the edges of the board. The board is then inserted in the frame from below, the undercut recess being made to engage the beveled edge of the cross-bar, and the board is forced home by an upward and slightlyforward movement from below, clamping the shirt between the board and frame and stretching the bosom smoothly overthe board,to which it is clamped and held by the frame during the process of ironing. Owing to the beveled edges ot'the board and interior of the frame, it will be impossible to push the board entirely through the frame, the board clamping and binding in the frame when its upper face is just flush with the upper face of the frame, thus providing for securing the board without other fastening devices than the extension and beveled cross' bar.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the board having rounded shoulders near its upper end and an extension provided. with an angular undercut recess, of the rectangular frame of a configuration to fit upon the edges of the board and provided with across-bar having a beveled edge, the sides of the board and inner sides of the frame being reversely beveled, as described, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses this 22d day of February, 1882.
