The invention relates to a necktie container and supporting rack. An object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive necktie container and supporting rack of strong, durable and highly ornamental construction, adapted to support a large number of necktiescompactly in a comparatively small space, free from dust and wrinkles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a necktie cabinet and supporting rack adapted for use by individuals as well as for display purposes in the sale of neckwear and equipped with a cabinet having a transparent body portion so that its contents may be readily viewed from the exterior.
A further object of the invention is to provide a necktie container and supporting rack provided with a plurality of tie holders each adapted to hold a plurality of neckties and capable of being withdrawn from the cabinet or container, either singly or all together, so as to afiord ready access to the contained neckties and capable, when returned to the cabinet, of compressing the neckties and removing therefrom any wrinkles incident to the use of a necktie by the wearer so that the device will always provide the wearer with a clean, neat necktie.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a necktie container and supporting rack of a portable character adapted to be conveniently carried when traveling and capable also of being readily mounted in fixed position on a wall or placed upon a supporting surface and when opened or closed will always support the contained neckties in a vertical hanging position without any danger of wrinkling its contents.
Another object of the invention is to provide a necktie container and supporting rack provided with a door hinged at the top and adaptedin opening to swing upwardly to a horizontal position and held in such position by means which also constitutes a portion of a track or guideway for supporting the necktie holders when the same are withdrawn from the body portion of the cabinet or container.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a simple and effective locking device for securing the door in its open position and readily adjust: able into locking engagement with keeper means;
when the door is raised to its horizontal open position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accom- 16 Claims. ('01. 312--276) panying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from thespirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Figure 10 is a detail perspective view of one of the necktie holders; T
Figure 11 is an exploded detail view of the locking device;
Figure 12 is a sectional view of the same, taken on the line l2l2 of Figure 11.
In the accompanying drawings, in which is i1- lustrated the preferredembodiment of the invention, the container or cabinet preferably consists of a transparent body portion l constructed of plastic or any other suitable material and composed of an end wall 2, vertical sides 3, an arched top 4 and'a horizontal bottom 5 which may conveniently be formed in a single-piece or unitary structure. The end wall 2 constitutes the back of the container which is provided at the front with a door 6, hinged at the top to the top of the body portion l by a suitable hinge I and adapted to be swung upwardly from the vertical closed position illustrated in Figure 1 which maintains the hinged door in its elevated horizontal position when the door is opened. w The track sections are flanged and substantially inverted T-shape in cross section and the stationary track section 9 is suitably secured to the top 4 of the body I of the container. The hinge II has its leaves secured to the flanges of the track sections and is located at the lower face of the stationary track section and also that of the hinged track section when the latter is in the horizontal position.
The hinged door, which may be constructed of any suitable material, is provided at its upper portion with a longitudinal opening it to receive the web portion of the hinged track section and it is also provided with a slot M in which the looking device I2 slides in the opening and closing movements of the door. In the drawings the slot is formed in the plate t5 which bridges the lower portion of theopening 13, but any other suitable construction may, of course, be provided for the accommodation of the locking device which slidably connects the hinged track section with the door and which cooperates with the hinged track section to provide means for holding the door in its open elevated horizontal position.
The locking device 1-2 comprises a bolt l6 and a pivoted catch 'll mounted on the bolt 16 adjacent the head 1-8 and adapted to be turned to a position transversely of the slot M to engage a transverse recess I9 extending from opposite sides 'of the slot 14. The walls of the slot 14 are recesses longitudinally at 20 to receive the catch '3 when the catch is turned from a position transversely of the slot M to a'position 'longitudinally thereof, and the longitudinal recesses form a guide for the catch in the sliding movement of the locking device when the door is opened, or when it is closed. The bolt is provided at its threaded end with a nut 21 and a coil spring 22 is arranged on the bolt and interposed between the nut and the hinged section of the track through which the bolt passes. The spring 22 yieldably maintains the catch in engagement with either the longitudinal recess 20 at opposite sides of the slot I4, or in its position transversely of the slot [4 when it is in engagement with the transverse recess [9. The catchfwhich is substantially 1U shape, as clearly illustrated in Figure 12 of the drawings, is composed of two sides and a transverse connecting portion which is provided with an opening 23 for the reception of the bolt [6. The sides of thecatch are adapted to be readily grasped for drawing the bolt outwardly to permit the turning of the catch to arrange the locking device for sliding in the slot 14 or for holding the locking device against-sliding movement. When the door is closed the spring 22 maintains the catch in frictional engagement with the door for holding the door in its closed position.
When the door is in its open position the hinged track sections form a continuous track and'the laterally extending flanges of the track sections are adapted to be engaged by lugs 24 extending inwardly from opposite sides of the hanger member or portion 25 of the tie holders 8,, which are provided with arms 26 extending horizontally from opposite sides of the hanger portion 25. The hanger portion 25 is centrally arranged and extends upwardly from the arms 2-6 and is provided with an opening 21 forming in the hanger a substantially U-shaped trackreceiving and track-engaging portion 'which is provided at opposite sides with the said lugs 24.
Any desired number of tie holders may, of
course, be employed and the tie holder at the inner end of the set is provided with a horizontal operating rod 28 which extends outwardly through theopenings 21 and is adapted to be readily grasped for enabling the entire set of tie holders to be simultaneously withdrawn from the body of the container. ,The tie holders may be individually or collectively withdrawn from the body of the container and they may also be individually and collectively removed .trom the track by sliding them oii the hinged track section at the end where the same is slidably connected with the door.
It will be seen that the individually slidable tie holders may be compactly arranged andwill enablea large number of neckties to be supported within a comparatively small space and also will enable the neckties to be pressed together when the holders are moved into the body of the container. The compressing of the tires within the container will remove wrinkles from the worn necktie and a fresh, neat, 'unwrinkled' necktie may be'rea'dily obtained at any time. While the device designed for the use of individuals, it may be advantageously employed for displaying and protectingneckties for sale. Thene'ckties, when arranged on the 'tie holders, always remain in the depending vertical position, whether the tie holders are located within the container or are slid outwardly therefrom and supported on the track extension formed by the hinged section, which performs the dual function of supporting the necktie holders and of cooperating with the locking device for maintaining the door in its elevated open position.
An suitable means may be provided for enabling the necktie container and supporting rack to be mounted on the wall; it may be arranged upon any supporting surface and may be conveniently carried while traveling.
While the device is especially designed for hold ing neckties, it maybe advantageously employed for protecting and supporting various other articles.
