Description

1951 E. J. GRIGSBY 2,569,756
BRACKET FOR SHADE ROLLERS Filed May 10, 1948 FIG. I
INVENTOR. Eur! J. Grigsby ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 2, 1951 Earl J. Grigsby, San Pedro; Calm. i
ApplicationMay 10,1948, SerialNo. 26,163 I This invention relates to brackets for shade rollers and it is an object of the invention to provide a bracket of this kind constructed in a manner whereby it can be placed quickly and effectively in desired position on the surface of a window frame or the like.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a bracket of this kind which can be readily and economically produced from plastic material.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination of the several parts of my improved bracket for shade rollers whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation illustrating a set of brackets constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, a portion being broken away and a shade roller applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a view in perspective from the rear of one of the brackets comprised in Figure 1 and unapplied.
Figure 3 is a view in perspective from the front of the bracket shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view in elevation of a bracket constructed in accordance with another embodiment of the invention.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in elevation of the bracket as shown in Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a view in perspective from above of the bracket as comprised in Figures 4 and 5.
In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 3, each of the shade roller brackets comprises an oblong body B of a suitable plastic material and of such color desired. The longitudinal axis of the body B is comparatively short with the width approximately equal to three-fourths of the length. The body B is preferably of a thickness substantially equal to one half of the length.
The front face a of the body B is provided at substantially the transverse center thereof with a deep groove I having its upper portion l opening out through a side face of the body B. The inner or lower end of the groove is closed to provide a shoulder 2.
The rear face b of the body B is provided with a shallow recess 3 disposed over the major area of face I: and of an outline closely approachin 1 Claim. (01. 248-4268) the outline of the face 1) with-margins, of the recess 3 closely adjacent to margins of the face I). The recess 3, in practice, is of a depth preferably equal to the average thickness of a sheet of paper.
The open end of the groove l is at what may be termed the top of the bracket and the upper portion of the rear or back face I) of the body has extending outwardly thereof a pin or lug 4. This pin or lug 4 is below the recess 3 and at substantially the transverse center of the body B.
In applying the brackets or bodies B, the surfaces of the window or the like to which they are to be applied should be thoroughly cleaned and smoothed and at each location a recess or hole 5 should be punched in the surface to receive the pin or lug 4 which has had previously applied thereto a suitable binder, such as a quick setting plastic cement. The recess 3 of the back or rear face I) of the bracket or body is filled with a similar binder for adhesion upon the surface on which the bracket or body is applied.
The recess or hole 5 should be of a depth greater than the length of the pin or lug 4 and in applying the bracket or body it should be firmly pressed against the surface upon which the bracket or body is being placed with the pin or lug 4 extended within the recess or hole 5.
Two of the brackets or bodies B constitute a set with which a shade roller engages in a conventional manner, and such brackets or bodies can be finished or colored to harmonize with the color of a shade.
In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figures 4 to 6 the body A differs from the body B in that the front face 0 of the body A has extending outwardly therefrom and at substantially right angles thereto a plate 6. This plate 6 is preferably positioned at the outer side margin of the body A with its top edge face 1 flush with the top edge of the body A. The lower portion of the plate 6 is herein shown as disposed on an inward and downward incline, as at 8, although this is not essential as the design of the plate 6 is a matter of preference.
The upper edge portion of the plate 6 is provided with a slot 9 open at its upper end to permit desired application of an end portion of the conventional shade roller.
In the second embodiment of the invention, the brackets are positioned to extend outwardly from the window frame or the like, while in the first embodiment the brackets are to be located within a window frame or upon such surfaces whereby the faces a may be opposed.
In the second form as here comprised the rear face 01 of the body A is also provided with shallow recess II] to be filled with a desired binder and also with an outstanding pin or lug H.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a bracket for shade rollers constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be constructed and operated.
I claim:
As a new article of manufacture; a bracket said rear side of said body adjacent its upper end for engagement in an opening formed inthe side of a window casing, said body having a relatively shallow recess of a substantial area formed in its rear side to receive an adhesive to 20 cooperate with said dowel pin in securing the body in a set position, the front side of said body having an obtusely angled slotted recess formed therein for holding coaction with the shade roller, a lower portion of said recess being vertically disposed and the other portion thereof extending obliquely upward from the upper end of the said lower portion and opening through the front vertical edge of said body.
EARL J. GRIGSBY.
