To all whom t may concern:
- Beit known that I, GEORGE A: KNAPP, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Chlca o, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Facings for Inside of Window-Openings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to metal facing for inside of window openings.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a -smooth, protecting facing for window openings inside of rooms. y
Another object is to provide protecting covers for the corners at the juncture of the wall and the surface bounding the window opening which has the appearance of being a continuation of the plaster, extending to the jamb at the termination of the revea and stool and which is iush with the plaster at the edge of the trim thus provided, whereby to make a storm-ti ht coversanitary in its lack o openings to harbor insects; which is durable and artistic in appearance, dust-proof and which serves as a finishing ground for-the plaster.
Another object is to provide a knock- `down metallic structure including a trim, stool and reveal in one, that can be easily put together on the job thus saving excessive storage and freight charges and contributing to ease Iand convenience of handlin and installing.

The structure for one window consists of two curved sheet metal u rights 5 and similar metal end pieces 6 ihr the to of the opening and 7 for the bottom. of ty e opening, or the stool and trim. The side pieces and u per` end (pieces constitute a trim 8 and revea 9 )ome by an intermediate curved part 10.
The lower cross piece 7 may be used alone to provlde a combined stool 11 and trim 12.
The curved sheet metal pieces 5, 6 and 7 are jolned together by corner brackets 13, havlng ledv es 14 to receive the ends of the reveals an trim portions so that they will be flush with the exposed surface ofthe brackets giving the appearance of unbroken surfaces.
Each of the brackets has lugs 15 projecting over the ledges to which toy secure the sheet 1ron parts. The lugs have clearance holes for attaching screws l16. The screws ma be of the flat head type, preferably we ded to the inner surface of the sheet to reg1ster with the holes in the lugs and held in lace by nuts 17.
he sheet metal parts may, if desired, have holes through which the screws may pass into threaded lu s, if such arrangement is preferable, and sight of the screw heads is not objectionable, but such variation is not so artistic in appearance as when the heads of the screws are not shown.
The outer edges of the iinishedsides are perforated and bent lat an angle something more than ninety degrees to form a knee for the plaster, as at 18, and which also serves as a ground to which to finish the plaster 19 so that the trim 12 and the plaster will be flush in the nshed wall. The returned flat part 20, o f the edge of the trim,
is to be nailed to strips 21, or to the wall. The inner edge 22 of the stool may be fastened with screws 23 below a jamb strip 24, for the window 25.
In applyin the overlying stool 7 it is well to first oat the ledge with cement or plaster 26 before the part 7 is put in place and then force the material through the openings 27 to completely back up the overlyin metal sheet.
T e sheet metal members have a at portion constituting the trim and another flat portion at right angles to the trimconstituting the reveal and a lcurved portion connecting these two parts.
The edge of the trim is inturned and outturned to form a knee for a ground by which to iinish the laster, the inturned part termicure the outer edges to the wall structure, the inturned portion being perforated through which perforations to key the plaster.
The structure described and claimed herein, while referred to as a covering for a window opening, is equally well adapted to serve the same purpose forga door opening and the word wlndow as used in the claims is descriptive and not qualifying.
While I have herein shown a single embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that changes mayrbe made in the configuration and disposition of the parts within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A covering for a window openin comprisin a rectangular frame consistlng of four seet metal members, each member longitudinally bent` near its transverse `median region to provide a reveal and a trim located at substantially right angles to each other, the edges of the tr1m bent inwardly to provide a knee to serve as a finishing ground and bent again to provide a iange to receive attaching nails; corner brackets connecting the yterminal ends of the members, the adjoining surface of the brackets being substantially flush with the inner surfaces of the members, the inner edge of the reveal extending suiiciently to be under the jamb strips of the window frame.
2. An inside-covering for an opening in a wall comprising a knock-down rectangular frame having a plurality of sheet metal members, each member longitudinally bent into a curve near its transverse median region to provide a reveal and a trim located at substantially right angles to 'each other, the edges of the trim Abeing perforated and bent at an angle greater than ninety degrees to form a knee and bent again to form an attaching flange, the intermediate portion of the bent part spacing the knee a uniform distance from the wall, whereby the knee -serves as a ground vfor the plaster; screws members;
suitably spaced apart near the ends of the and brackets to connect adjacent yends of said members providin holes to receive the screws and to hold adjacent members that are located at right angles to each other.
3. A structure having a sheet metal member and a bracket to wh1ch it is to be attached and screws face of the sheet metal member adjacent the bracket to be received by holes 1n the bracket and nuts on the screws to hold said member and bracket together without exposin the screws.
4. i covering for a window opening comprising a rectangular frame providing four sheet metal members, each member longitudinally bent near its transverse median region to provide a reveal and a trim located at substantially right angles to each other, the longitudinal edges of the trims bent inwardly to provide a knee to serve as a finishing ground for the plaster to be ap lied to the wall whereby the knees and plastered surfaces will be substantially flush and means to secure'said trims to the wall, spaced away therefrom, the inner edges of the reveal eX- tending sufficiently to lie under the jamb strips of the window frame.
5. A covering for a window opening comprising a rectangular frame providing four sheet metal members each member longitudinally'bent near its transverse median region to provide a reveal and a trim located at substantially right angles to each other,
the longitudinal edges of the trim bent inwardly to form a knee to serve as a ground for the plaster to be applied to the wall whereby to bring the plaster flush with the trim; means to space the knee uniformly away from the wall; means to secure the trim to the wall, said reveal extending suficiently to lie under the jamb strips of the window frame.
