WINDOW STRIP.
1 Application filed April 4 Strips; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relatesv to window strips which are adapted to be inserted between the sash and the jamb. 7
Among the important objects of my inven tion are, the, elimination of a large part of the expense incident to the use of weights and pulleys and the like, for supporting the sashat a point to which it may be adjusted, and the provision of resilient means for this purpose, which at the same time performs the function of preventing the window from rattling and likewise serves as a weather strip. The invention will be more fully explained in connection with the accompanying draw- 25 ing, in which Figure 1 represents a sectional plan view thru a window frame with my invention applied thereto.
- Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the manner of applyingthe invention to the sash. V
' Figure 3 is a perspective view of the spring strip which is attached to the jamb,.
and V Figure 41 is a detailed view showing the manner of attaching the same.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates the j am b of the window frame, 6 the inside casing, 7 the blind stop, and 8 the window stop. The usual sashes 9 are mounted to slide up and downbetween the window stop and the blind stop. My invention includes the provision of a jamb strip 10 which is formed from spring metal and which eliminates the use of weights and pulleys as well as the parting stop. This spring strip is formed with a pair of longitudinal beads 11, which extend in the direction of the sashes, and the por- 1922. SerialNo. 549,457.
tions of the strip which extend outwardly from the beads are inclined towards the jamb, as shownl at 12, and terminate in flanges 13 which are folded so as to extend towards each other and are secured tothe jamb. Each sash is provided preferably with a metallic strip 14, which is formed with an inwardly extending groove 15 which is adapted to receive the corresponding bead 11. The flanges 13 are secured to the jamb by screws or brads 16, which may be easily driven into the jamb thru 'holes 17 provided in the sloping surface .12.
The strip 10 is made of suitable width and shape, so that when it is secured to the j amb, the central portion thereof will be spaced therefrom, and resiliently ur ed towards the sash, which is made of suita le sizeso as to closely engage the same, By 'means ofthis construction, the engagement of the two strips will be of suflicient strength to support the sash in any-position to which it is raised, and this close engagement, in connection with the curved form of the. bead, will serve to effectually prevent the wind from coming thru the window, and will also prevent the window from rattling.
Although for the purpose of illustration I have shown one specific way inwhich my-invention may be carried out, it will be understood that various modifications may be made in the structural details. thereof without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. A device of J comprising a pair of metallic strips adapt ed to be secured to a window jamb and the adjacent side of the sash respectively, one of said strips having a longitudinal groove formed therein and the other strip having a bead slidably engageable therewith, the latter strip bemg normally under spring tension so as to exert pressure in said groove to frictionally hold said sash in adjusted position. I
2. As an article of manufacture, a metallic j amb strip for windows having a pair of longitudinal beads adapted to register the character described with corresponding grooves in the side edges may be inserted thru the flanges to secure of the sashes, the portions of said strip outthe strip to the window j amb. 10 side of the beads being inclined away from In testimony that I claim the foregoing the beaded side and terminating in flanges I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee which are turned toward each other under-. in the county of Milwaukee and State of neath the inclined portions for contacting Wisconsin.
with said j amb, said inclined portions being provided with openings thru which screws JOHN W. SCOTT.
