SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,885,'dated April 25, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be itknown that I, JAMES H. CODDING, of North Dighton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ranges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 0000, Fig. 1. Fig.3 is a similar view taken on the line y y, Fig. 1.

My invention consists in combining with the cabinet-base, so called, of a range, an independent ash-box secured within said base and accessible through the front of the same, and a sifting-grate supported in a frame above the ash-box, the whole constructed and ar-' ranged substantially as described hereinafter.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, A represents the base part of a range, known to the trade as a cabinet-base. Upon the top of this base is fitted and rests ametalframe, B, the part B of which serves as the bottom said frame and the base are thus arranged so that either of them can be shipped or transported separate from the other, while they can be readily put together by any unskilled per- JAMES 1-1.
