Description
(No Model.)
P. 0. ZANETTI.
COMBINED FAUGET AND AUTOMATIC TOY.
No. 256,868. Patented Apr. 25, 1882.
TIT L,
' fountain B. Said faucet, which is mainly of UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FORTONATO O. ZANETTI, OF BRYAN, TEXAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,868, dated April 25, 1882.
Application filed February 28, 1882. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, FORTONATO G. ZANETTI, ofBryan, in the county of Brazos and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Faucet and Automatic Toy; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form apart of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention as applied to the faucet of a sodafountain. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line a: m, Fig. 2; and Fig. etis a longitudinal sectional view, illustrating a modification.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to faucets for sodafountains and the like; and it consists in providing the same with a jointed figure or automaton adapted to be operated by the escapin g fluid, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a faucet suitably attached to the sodathe ordinary well-known construction, is provided with a suitably-constructed U-shaped gutter, 0, extending diagonally in a downward direction from its outlet D, to guide the fluid as it escapes from the fountain into the tumbler held underneath.
E is a Ushaped bracket adjustable upon the trough or gutter O by means of hooks or lugs F upon its inner sides, which said hooks or lugs catch over the edges of said gutter. Bracket E is provided with suitable bearings for the shaft G of a paddle-wheel, H, adapted to be actuated by the liquid passing through the said trough or gutter. I is ajointed figure or automaton, which in ay, as in the drawings, represent a bicyclist, or it may be made to represent a steam-engine, windmill, organgrinder, or whatever may be desired. Said automaton is also mounted, as shown, upon the bracket E and suitably connected with cranks J upon the shaft of the by which it is operated.
Is. is a spout or funnel, having a large flanged mouth or opening, L, and a screwthreaded ring, M, by which it may be adjusted upon the threaded end of the gutter O, which is likewise formed with a ring, N. The flanged mouth of the funnel serves, when my invention is applied to fountains containing sodawater or other effervescent fluids, to prevent the same from. overflowing, as it escapes from the failcet, and the said funnel also serves, by pressing or bearing against the edge of the bracket E as it is being screwed into position, to prevent the said bracket from slipping or sliding off the gutter or trough (J.
In Fig. 4. of the drawings I have shown a paddle-wheel,
. faucet more especially adapted for fountains containingnon-eftervescent fluids-such as icewater. In this case the flanged funnel K is omitted, and I substitute for it simply a ring, 0, which serves to hold the bracket E and its attachments in position.
This invention is simple, inexpensive, and easily applied to faucets now in use. It forms an amusing and attractive toy.
Having hus described my invention, I claim and desire tosecure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. Afaucet constructed, as herein described, with a trough or gutter, in combination with an automatic figure operated by a paddle-wheel adapted to be actuated by the fluid passing through said trough or gutter, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the faucet A, having trough O, of the funnel or spout K, having flange L, as set forth.
3. The combination of the faucet A, having trough G, the bracket E, paddle-wheel H, shaft G, automaton I, and the funnel or spout K, having flange L, substantially as and for the purposeset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FORTONA'IO OLEMENTE ZANETTI.
Witnesses B. F. MoKEY, F. WELLER.
