UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE.
WILLIAM WILSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ADVERTISING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,780, dated A ril 18, 1882.
Application filed July 12, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WILsON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ad vertisin g-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple and comparatively inexpensive table for advertising purposes, whereby a single transparent plate is utilized to cover the table-top, and through which the advertisements can be inspected, said plate being capable of convenient removal and replacement by a simple sliding movementt'or changing the advertising sheets.
The invention consists,in an advertising-table, ofa top provided atits ends with projecting guide-bars a a, arranged parallel to each other, in combination with a transparent plate adapted to be held and to slide longitudinally between said guide-bars and to retain an advertising-sheet in position to be seen through the plate on the table, as and for the purpose hereinafter described.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical section of my table. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the letter A designates a table, which is provided on its top with guide bars a a to rcceive a transparent plate, B. These guides are arranged respectively at opposite ends of the table, and are beveled inwardly, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and the transparent plate is beveled at its edges and adapted to slide longitudinally between said guides for the purpose of removing it from or inserting it in the same, the latter serving to retain the transparent plate in proper position.
Beneath this transparent plate is formed a space for the reception of one or more sheets, b, of paper or other suitable material, on which are printed or otherwise marked one or more advertisements.
The space beneath the transparent plate may be made deep enough to receive a series of superposed advertising-sheets, so that different advertisements can be displayed by changing the order of the sheets.
The table constructed as described is intended particularly for hotels and restaurants, and it serves to keep the advertisement permanently before the eyes of the parties using the table, while the advertising-sheets can be changed with ease and convenience, it simply being necessary to slide the transparent plate from between the guide-bars on the table-top.
I do not broadly claim a table provided with movable transparent plates covering advertisements, whereby the latter can be inspected through the plates, as such is not new with me; but
What 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an advertising-table, a top provided at its ends with projecting guide-bars a a, arranged parallel to each other, in combination with a transparent plate adapted to be held and to slide longitudinally between said guide-bars, and to retain an advertising-sheet in position to be seen through the plate on the table, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM WILSON. n s] Witnesses W. HAUFF, E. F. KasrENHUBEu.
