Description
PATENTED JUNE 26, 1906.
J. J. TODD.
PICTURE EXHIBITOR.
APPLIOATION FILED MAY 16, 1905.
A Home UNITED STATES PATENT onnron.
JESSE J. TODD, OF l/VICHITA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WALTER MORRIS, OF WICHITA, KANSAS PICTURE-EXHIBITOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 16, 1905. Serial No. 260,714.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jnssn J. TODD, a resident of Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture- Exhibitors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in picture-exhibitors, the object of the invention being to provide improvements of this character especially designed to exhibit photographs and take the place of the ordinary album, provide improved means for exhibiting the pictures on a strip or tape, providemeans for moving the strip, and also so construct my improvements as to permit the exhibition of stifi' or mounted photographs or pictures.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of. construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation. Fig. 3 is aviewin horizontal section, and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are views of details of construction.
1 represents a box or case of rectangular or other shape and made of any size and material to suit the trade. A transparent window 2 is provided in the top of the box to admit light thereto, and lenses 3 are located in the front of the box, spaced the proper distance apart, and provided with suitable hoods 5.
Mounted vertically in box 1, near its ends and near the back thereof, are two rollers 8, having journals 6 mounted in the top and bottom of the box, one journal of each roller projecting through the box-bottom and provided with buttons or knobs 7 to facilitate the turning thereof. The rollers 8 are provided with removable sections or quartersection strips having screws 9 to secure them in place and clamp the ends of the strip 10, carrying the pictures to be exhibited. The rollers have flanges 11 at both ends to guide the strip thereon, and spring-cylinders 12 inclose the rolled strip to give necessary resistance to unwinding and insure the strip being always maintained taut. The spring-cylinders 12 are attached to posts 12*, located in proximity to the rollers 8 and provided at their ends with tenons to enter holes in the top and bottom of the box. Split-spring friction-disks 13 are provided between the ends of the rollers and the box to hold the rollers against accidental turning.
The strip 10 may be made of canvas or other strong flexible material and may have the pictures printed thereon or attached thereto in any approved manner, and it will be observed that this strip can be moved from roller to roller and each picture in turn passed before the vision of the operator looking through the lenses.
The box-top is made with an elongated slot 14 for the admission of mounted photographs or pictures to be seen through the lenses, and removable drawers 15 are provided in the box and are adapted to contain rollers or strips containing pictures or mounted photographs to be used in connection with my improvements.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a box having lenses in onewall, of rollers supported to turn, means for turning the rollers, a flexible picturestrip secured to and adapted to be wound from one to the other and constructed to display its pictures, said box having a slot to receive and support mounted pictures, and movable drawers in said box.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JESSE J. TODD.
Witnesses:
JOHN J. CRIs'r, WALTER MORRIS.
