The present invention relates to a neckwear accessory and it particularly relates toade'iVice :for use bymen in connection withmaintaining their four-in-hand tiesor both their four-in hand ties and collars in dressedcondition.

Four-in-hand ties tendto slip outof position or become loose orshift tothe side, eventhough .they may be most carefully adjusted by the wearer thereof and it is among the objects of the present invention to provide a simple, inex- .pensive, durable, light-weight, readily manufactured and merchandised accessory which may be employed to hold four-in-hand ties in initially .adjusted or dressed position without slippage,

loosening and offsetting. during courseofa working day or during the course of. an evenings activities which will eliminate the necessity of constant adjustment, fingering and tightening of such ties during theday or evening.

Another object is to provide a simple, readily manipulated male tie and. collar accessory which will Without injury to or cutting of tie and collar both hold a collar in. shape. and prevent a tie knot from slipping or loosening .or becoming offset.

Aiurther objectis to provide an. ornamental and distinctive collar holder which. 'will' also enable holding of the tie knot inf final adjusted position with respect to said tie.

Stillfurther' objects and advantages willapp'ear in the more detailed description set'forth below, it being understood, however, that this more'detailed description is given by way of illustration and explanation only andnot byway of limitation, since various changes. thereinjmaybe made by those skilled in the art withoutdeparting from the scope and spiritlof'the presentiinvention.

In accomplishing the above objects, it has. been found most satisfactory to formja clip device having thin elongated pin or. dagger elements which. may be readily inserte'dj into theknot of a four-in-hand tie in suChmanner-Tas notto'be visible or to be concealed by'the knot.

The device mayltake the form of a U-shaped wire device, the ends of the legs are sharpened and turned inwardly to' form overlapping pins to be inserted into the sides of. the, four -inr-hand knot with the base of the U concealed behind the knot. The base of the U may also take the form of a coil spring. 3 but upon a reduced scale as compared to Figs. 3 and 5, showing still another form of the invention with two sliding knot engaging elements designed to engage a knot in position on a collar.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 3, the collar A of the mens shirt has the adjacent edges I which are engaged by the collar clasp or accessory B. The four-in-hand tie C has been tied into a knot II with the depending portions I2 and is engaged by the elongated sliding pin D serving as a knot engaging element.

As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the accessory B has a back or rear element [3 to fit behind the collar A, which element [3 is rearwardly bowed or depressed at l4 to receive the knot I I of the tie C.

Mounted on the back element l3 at l5 and 16 are the legs I! and I8 which extend upwardly and carry the small tubular elements l9 and 20.

The formation of a recess E by the depression l4 and between the legs I! and [8 without extending the elements I9 and 20 straight across the front of the accessory B is also a feature of the present invention.

As shown the pin element D has an offcenter knob or handle 2| which may be of metal, glass or plastic colored to match the shirt or tie. The pin or shank 22 has a sharp point 23 and is curved to fit the curve of the tubular guides 19 and 20.

The knob end 24 is permanently attached to the end 25 of the tubular guide [9 in the form shown in Fig. 2, but it may take the form E shown in Fig. 5 where it is removable and replaceable to give different colors or permit different types of jewels or objects to be employed whether of metal, plastic, gems or glass. The object 26 in Fig. 5 as shown is provided with an attachment 2! to be inserted in the end 25 of the tube I9. The attachment 2! is shown as consisting of two spring apart wires but it may also be a conical plug or other gripping device.

In operation the tie C is tied with knot H. Then the pin D is withdrawn and the collar edge [0 is gripped as shown at left of Fig. 3 below knob 24. Then the pin 22 is inserted into the tube 20, through the knot l l and into the tube [9 and the knob 2| is then turned slightly so that it will grip the edge in of the collar A below the knot 2|. The offset position-of the knob 2| will give it a camming action. The curvature of the shank 22 will permit sufficient camming of the knob 2| tightly to grip the collar edge [0.

In Fig. 4 the clip B and pin D are of the same construction as in Figs. -1 to 3 except that the bow 28 aids in frictionally holding the pin D in the sleeve or cylindrical guide 20.

In Fig. 6 the clip F has inturned overlapping sharpened ends 29 and 30, side legs 3| and 32 and a curved base 33. Upon attachment, the ends 29 and 3|] as shown in Fig. 8 will extend into the sides of the knot H and the bow 33 will be in the back of the knot II where it will not be seen. The pin ends 29 and 30 will project through the knot H and prevent the layers of fabric from moving in respect to each other.

In the embodiment G of Fig. '7 the pin ends 34 and 35 overlap and function like the pin ends 29 and 39 in Fig. 6. The legs 36 and 31 carry the pin ends 34 and 35 respectively and are connected by a coil spring 39. The device G is used in the same manner as the device F of Fig. 6.

In the device H of Fig. 9 the tubes 44 and 45 are both provided with sliding pin members J and K, with knobs 40 and 41 and shanks 42 and 43. The tubes 44 and 45 have presser feet 50 and are opened at both ends. The sharpened ends 46 and 41 will overlap at 48 when inserted into a tie knot.

The sharpened points 23, 29, 30, 34, 35, 46 and 41 are desirably of such thinness as not to damage the fabric of the tie C when inserted into the knot ll thereof. At the same time they will prevent the fabric layers of the knot II from loosening, slipping or oifsetting.

In Fig. 2 the knob 24 pressing the collar edge 10 against the back 13 will hold the device B in position when the pin D is inserted through the knot l I. In Fig. 9 this will be done by the presser feet or knobs 50. V

The present invention is not only applicable to the tie known as four-in-hand, but also to any type of mens neckwear, including any type of tie having a knotted structure adjacent or at the break in a collar.

Instead of the recess E and curve M, the front of the collar clip might follow the usual curve.

As many changes could be made in the above neckwear accessories and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope of the claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What is claimed is:

1. A mens clothing accessory comprising a laterally elongated metal base member to extend beyond and in back of the adjacent edges of the collar, pin guide members positioned in front of said metal base member provided with legs on the inside ends thereof to mount said tubular members on said base member adjacent the edges of said collar and to leave a substantial space between the adjacent ends of said tubular members for reception of the knot of a tie, depending members at the outer ends of said tubular members to press down upon the outer faces of the edges of the collar and clamp said edges against said metal base, and elongated pin means inserted into said tubular members having enlarged heads to be stopped against the outer ends of said tubular members, the inner ends of said pins to penetrate into the knot of a tie in the space between the inner ends of said tubes.

2. The accessory of claim 1 in which the base has a recess for receiving the knot of the tie be tween said legs.

3. The accessory of claim 1 in which the pointed ends of said elongated pins cross and contact each other in the space between the inner ends of said tubular members.
