M. H. JONBSI BOUQUET HOLDER.
N0.A31`7`,650. Patented May 12, 1885.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
M. HENRY JONES, OF RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA.
BOUQUET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,650, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed December 10, 1884. (No model.) v
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, M. HENRY JoNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raleigh, in the county of /Vake and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bouquet Holders, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a combined brooch or breastpin and bouquet-holder, or, in other words, in a bouquet holder in the forni of a breastpin or brooch or similar article of jewelry. The brooch or breastpin is provided on'its face with a metal loop, ring, or retaining device (which may be as ornamental as desired) for holding the bouquet, while permitting it to be removed and replaced when desired. The body of said brooch or breastpin, which lies behind and extends on either side beyond said loop or ring, forms at once a background to the bouquet and secure fast' ening for the same. Of course an ornament other than a bouquet could be inserted in the holder.
The invention also consists in the combination, in a bouquet-holder provided with means for attaching the same to a garment, of a loop for receiving the stem of the bouquet or of other ornamenif and a movable piece, and specially a pin fitting in sockets in said holder for confining the stem in said loop.
The accompanying drawings represent a bouquet holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Y Figure lis a face view of the said holder; Fig. 2, a plan; Fig. 3, a side view of the pin for confining the bouquet in the loop; Eig. 4, a face View of the holder with a bouquet in place; Eig. 5, a longitudinal sectional View, showing the sockets for receiving the pin represented in Fig. 3; and Fig. 6, a View in elevation with part of the holder removed.
The brooch or breastpin is provided on its face with a metal loop, B, the body A of the brooch or breastpin extending beyond the loop on either side. The pin C fits in the sockets F in the body A, and is provided with a head, E, for withdrawing it when desired. rIhe friction of the pinagainst the sides of the sockets will suffice to retain the pin in place; but-the pin may be made of a hollow wire with a slit in the center to give it a spring, a steel or other metal point being inserted in the end and fastened.
The brooch is provided with the ordinary spirit of the invention and that parts of the invention could be used separately. 1
It may be observed that pins have been provided with sockets at the head for holding a bouquet; also, that a badge having a hinged pin and catch like a brooch or breastpin has been provided with a socket or cup at the back for a bouquet, and also that a bouquetholder has been made or proposed to be made of a bar provided with means for attaching the same to the garment of the wearer, and an elastic band that can be drawn tightly over the stem of the bouquet placed against the said bar. These, however, differ essentially and obviously from the improved ornamental brooch or breastpin holder for bouquets herein described, and are not within the scope of the present invention..
Vhat I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A combined brooch or breastpin and bouquet-holder provided with means for fastening the saine to a garment, and having on the face thereof a metal loop open on one side, and a fastening device or pin extending across the opening in said loop, and conned by the body of the brooch or breastpin on both sides of said opening, substantially as described, said body extending beyond the loop on both sides ofthe same, as set forth.
2. The combined brooch or breastpin and bouquet-holder, comprising the body provided with the metal loop open at the back, as well as with means for attaching the said body to a garment, in combinationwith the movable pin fitting in sockets and extending across the opening in the loop, to confine the stem of the bouquet, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
M. HENRY JONES. Witnesses:
A. W. SHAEEER, H. MAHLER.
