-Referring to the drawings and partcularly to Figs. 1 to 9, the container dispenser comprises an outer drum IO having a rear substa'ntally circular wall I l and an outwardlyv curved or concave rim portion IZ attachedthereto by suitable :neanssuch as the crimping 1,3. The rim Vof the drumis provided with an outlet or vdispensing apertu'rel 41 and an elongatedslot 21Hffor purposes to be described later. the coil spring ,22 ,may store fenarsesos A tamper head 44 may be secured to the end of the rod farthest from the piston head to eject material from the container. Positioned within the cylinder around -a portion of rod 24 is a helical spring 45 which abuts the piston head of the rod at one end and a cylinder cap 32 at the other.
An adapter 46 is attached or may be integral with the drum IU at the outlet l41 corresponding to the extreme outward movement of the tamper head 44.
The inner drum IS is so positioned relative to the outer drum Ill that at one extreme of movement as shown in Fig. 3, the adaptor aperture 41 will be closed by the web portion 23 of the drum, but rotation of theinner drum will place the cutout portion I 9' of'the drum over the outlet 41. Likewise, the cam member 378 is so positioned relative to the drum that the piston rod'24 may occupy its fully retracted position as shown in Fig. 3 when the outlet 41 is closed by the web portion 20, in order that rotaryV movement of the .drum will move the piston rod .24 towards its position of ejectment as shown in Fig.r5.
In the operation Vofwthe device shown in-Figs. 1 to 9, loose tobacco may be placed within the drums when the door 14 of the outer drum is opened. After closing the door the tobacco will be securely retained therein unlessthe dispensing operation is carried out. In the dispensing Operation the pipe or other device into which it is desired to deposit tobacco may be placed around the adaptor 46 so that tobacco may be dispensed thereinto without spilling. Movement of the actuator 25 will produce rotary motion of the drum IS within the container IU. Simultaneously, the cam member 38 will cause the piston rod 24 to move downwardly. After a short initial movement of the drum and rod, the outlet 41 will be in registration with the cutout portion 19' of drum l6 and tobacco will be forced through the Opening by the tamper head 44 which is attached to the rod. The rotary movement of the drum I6 urges or feeds a portion of the tobacco into the space through which the tamper head moves, thereby assisting the dispensing operation. At the limit of the actuator's movement, it may be released, at which time the coil spring 22 will return the drum to its former position, and the helical spring 45 the rod to its former position. Successive movementsof the actuator to dispense morertobacco may be made if desired.
' Considering the modified forms of the device shown in Figs. 10 to 15, the device includes the f outer drum Ill with rear wall II and door 14. In the device shown in Figs. 10 to 13 the inner drum IE has a spring housing 21' and is constructed similarly to that of the previous form of the device; it is adapted to rotate on a member 23 of substantially the same construction. A piston rod is provided having an offset centrai portion 5I and a tamper head 52. A guide member 53 is also provided and comprises a substantially circular member 54 having a flange 54' which is adapted to be positioned on4 the spring housing 21' and has a tubular arm 55 secured by a stud 56 to the periphery of the container Ill. The guide member 53 also includes a slot 51 forthe reception of a pin 58 attached to the rod 50. thus restraining the rod to reciprocatory motion. The spring housing II' includes a cam slot 59 for the reception of an extremity of the pin 58.
' In the construction of the device it is conejectment.
templated that the substantially flat circular member 54 will be' positioned closely adjacent the fiat surface of the housing 2I' in order that the cam slot 59 will beV covered and particles of tobacco from within the container not permitted to pass therethrough into the spring housing. Similarly, the offset portion 5I of the rod is constructed to closely overlie the slot 51 in order to prevent particles of tobacco lodging therein and interfering with the Operation of the device.
In the Operation of the device, movementof the actuator produces rotation of the drum I6 to permit tobacco to flowout through the dispensing aperture in the outerdrum. Simultaneously engagement of the edges defining the cam slot 59 and that of the guide slot 51 with the pin 58 of the rod causes movement of the piston rod 50 from the position shown in Fig. 13 to that of After the actuator is moved to its extreme position it may be released at which point the coil spring 22 located within the housing 2I' causes both the drum and the rod to return to their previous position.
The form of the device shown in Fig. 14 is similar tothat in Fig. 13 except that the coil spring 2 and its housing 2I' is eliminated, and a cylinder 60, attached by a stud GI to the drum l, is provided for the reception of an end of a piston 50' having a piston head 62 adapted to be engaged by a helical spring 63. A pin 58 is engaged by a cam slot 59' in the rear wall of the drum.
In the Operation of this form of the device the energy for returning both the drum and the piston rod to its initial position is stored by means of the helical spring, instead of the coil spring of the previous form of the device.
The device shown in Fig. 15 includes both the coil spring 22 and the helical spring 63 of the two previous modifications, and the associated housings therefor. In this form of the device the drum and piston are returned to their initial positions by concurrent action of the coil and helical springs.
The invention contemplates the provision of a thin covering of leather, composition, or the like, for the container in order to render it substantially air tight and improve its appearance. It likewise contemplates the utilization of an inner drum of other types. For example, part or all of the rim portion Ia farthest from the rear wall I1 may be eliminated if desired and the web portion 20 may have a diagonal cutting edge for better Cooperation with the internal surface of the rim I2 of the drum in dispensing and cutting oif the flow of the tobacco.
various forms of adaptors including those for pipes or lcigarettes may be provided and the same may be integral with, permanently attached to, or removably attached to the container in order that various sizes and types may beemployed as the user desires.
It is apparent that the invention comprises a simple, inexpensive, and durable container for tobacco or other fluent material which is adapted to dispense the same into a suitable receptacle by a single continuous movement or actuation which causes the material to feed into ejecting position and be expelled therefrom It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the inventon without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings aacas'o's and described in the -specication but.. only as indicated in the appended claims;
