To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY S. FLOOD, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented Improvements iu Gloves, Gauntlets, Src.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and ex act description thereof.

My invention relates to certain improvements ingloves, gauntlets, mittens, and similar articles of handwear; and it consists in forming the glove or other article of cotton or woolen material, either knit, woven, or of leather or buckskim'and attaching thereto a backingof waterproof material to protect th'; hands from wet or cold when exposed thereto Referring to the accompanying drawings for a more completeexplanation of my invention, Figures l and 2 are views of my invention.

In the construction of yheavy gloves for drivers, wood-cutters, and o thers who must labor in inclement weather, leather, buckskin, and similar materials are employedfor strength and to resist rough usage, while woolen, knit, Woven, or other similar material is employed for warmth. Those, however, who are obliged to drive in cold, wet weather nd their gloves soon wet throughrom the back, and the hands become benumbed with cold.

My invention is designed to overcome this difficulty; and it consists in the application of awater-proof backing of any suitable material to gloves, mittens, gauntlets, or other handcovering of whatever material, so that the hands will be protectedfrom wet, and the material of the glove itself will keep them warm.

A is a glove or other hand-covering, which may be made of any suitable material from which gloves are usually made, Upon the back of the glove is secured a water-proof covering,

'B, which is attached to the glove or mittenin any suitable or desirable manner, or waterproofing material may be applied directly to the back of the glove, so that while the inner portion of-the hand is covered only with the ordinary material of the glove, and the whole hand may be protected and kept warm by it, the back will be protected Vfrom wet by this covering.

These gloves or mittens are especially adapted for the use of drivers whose hands become benumbed by the wetting through of their gloves, and it enables me to use a cheap and flexible material for the inner part of the glove, and also avoid incasing the whole hand in rubber or other water-proof substance, which will retain the perspiration of the hands and soon make the interior of the glove wet and uncomfortable.

My 'glove presents a waterproot' surface where most exposed to wet, and preserves the features of a tough, flexible, warm, and porous material upon the inside of the hand, where it is needed. y Y

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as. new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
