My invention relates to windows and more particularly to a device adapted to secure glass panes or the like in a window-sash.
The object of my invention is Lto .providea mechanical device for securing glass panes in a window sash, said means replacing the conventionally used putty.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the character indicated above which is adapted to be removed from the window sash and to be replaced again, permitting a glass pane to be set exchangeably in said sash.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character indicated above which is adapted to enga e the glass pane and the sash of a window in such a manner that the contact between the glass pane, the sash and the pane securing device is such, that the pane is being held securely but removably in position, and that any rattling of the glass pane and any leakage through the seams of contact is eliminated.
Other objects of my invention may appear in the following specification describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention.
It is, however, to be understood, that my invention is not to be restricted or limited to the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown in the drawing, but that such changes and modifications can be made, which fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
In the several figures of the drawing similar parts are designated by similar referencecharacters and Figure l is a view in elevation of a window frame showing the application thereto of a pane securing device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a detail section taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view in perspective of a portion of the glass securing device.
The device forming the subject matter of my invention is made from light sheet metal and has a body a of a substantially V-shaped cross section and consisting of an outer wing l and an inner wing I I, which are pressed pretty tightly together.

A thin rubber strip I6 is placed between the outer and inner wing l0 and II and is clamp: ingly engaged and held in place by said wings. It extends along the pressure member l5.
Each of the four members ll, l8, l9 and 20 of a window sash b is provided at its outer side with an inwardly extending rabbet 2|, against which rests a glass pane 22 fitting snugly into the sash b.
Inwardly from the rabbet 2|, each sash member is provided with a longitudinal groove 23 arranged so that the four grooves are forming a continuous rectangular groove, when the sash members ll, l8, l9 and 20 are assembled in any preferred conventional manner.
The above described pane securing device is then cut into two strips 24 fitting transversely into the window sash b, and the V-shaped body of each strip is forced into the groove 23 of one of the transverse sash members I1 and [9 respectively until the bead l4 abuts the sash b.
Two other strips 25 are then cut from the pane securing device, each strip fitting longitudinally into the window sash b. From each end of each longitudinal strip 25, a piece of the body a and of the flange portion In of the outer wing I2 is cut off, so that the cut ends extend at right angles to the apex edge of the V-shaped body and each removed portion is as long as the width of the pressure member 5.
Each end of each longitudinal pressure member is cut at an angle of 45, and the bodies of the two longitudinal strips are forced into the grooves 23 of the longitudinal sash members l8 and 20 until the bead I4 abuts the sash b.
When the glass pane 22 is arranged in the sash b and the four strips 24 and 25 respectively of the pane securing device are inserted in the.
grooves 23 as described above the pressure members [5 are urged against the glass pane by the beads l4 abutting the sash b. The rubber strips l6 prevent the pressure strips from coming into direct contact with the pane, so that tight, firm, but resilient seams of contact are formed.
The pressure members l5 of the transverse strips 24 are adapted to extend across the entire width of the pane on account of the cut-back ends of the V-shaped bodies a of the longitudinal strips 25, and the bevelled ends of the pressure members of said longitudinal strips will be located so that they overlap the ends of the pressure members of the transverse strips.
The above description shows clearly that the device forming the subject matter of my invention holds a glass firmlyand securely in positionin a window sasihjprevents any rattling noise caused by said window pane and forms leakage proof contact seams. pane securing device can be easily removed and.
