31 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to nursing bottle holders. The present invention contemplates nursing bottle holders suitable for use by the growing infant while using the-crib, the carriage or the high chair.
According to' the present invention the nursing bottle holder is so arranged that the bottle is supported. in such way that the bottle may be tilted down so as to cause the entire contents of the bottle to flow toward the nipple or up so as to keep the contents away from the nipple and the nipple up away from other objects. The bottle holder also permits the swinging of the nursing bottle about on a vertical axis so that the nipple may be placed in the infants mouth. The bottle may be readily swung Out of the way by the infant and the height of the bottle above its support may be adjusted according to the position of the infants mouth.
The invention also contemplates the making of the nursing bottle holder out of plastic materials which can be kept clean and sanitary and have a pleasing appearance.
Other and further objects will appear as the a description proceeds.
The accompanying drawings show, for purposes of illustrating the present invention, two embodiments in which the invention may take form, it being understood that the drawings are illustrative of the invention rather than limiting the same.
In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing one form of the nursing bottle holder in use;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view illustrating the bottle in nipple down position in full lines, in nipple up position in dot and dash lines and in elevated position in dotted lines;
Figure 3 is a top plan view illustrating the bottle in two positions relative to a vertical axis;
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view illustrating details of construction, certain parts being disassembled;
Figure 5 is a Vertical sectional view showing the parts assembled;
Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view on the line E--6 of Figure 5;
Figure '7 is a diagrammatic perspective view illustrating a bottle holder suitable for use in a high chair;
Figure 8 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device of Figure 7 and Figure 9 is a horizontal sectional view on the line i--9 of Figure 8.
In the form of construction shown in Figures 1 to 6 inclusive, the bottle holder employs a base iii, an intermediate member H and a bottle gripping member 52 adapted to receive the bod; l3 of a cylindrical nursing bottle bearing a nipple M.
The base iii has an upwardly extending central boss i5, cone shaped to improve the appearance and internally threaded as indicated at It. The intermediate member i! has a threaded shank it received the threaded boss on the base. The member i? of the intermediate member has parallel sides iii-4t, is perforated as indicated at l9 and has cams above the perforation. The bottle gripping member i2 has arc-shaped fingers Zi -21 adapted to tightly embrace the usual nursing bottle and has two downwardly extending elements 22-42 carrying pintle forming members 23. The member I i is made of a plastic molded material flexible enough in nature so that when pressure is applied by gripping it as shown in Figure 4, the pintle elements 2323 may be separated so as to pass by the camming surfaces and enter the perforation I9, as indicated in Figure 5. The members I! and I2 carry cooperative stops 25 and 24', 25', so that the clamp I2 can be shifted back and forth to a limited extent, as indicated in the full line and dotted line positions of Figure 2. The extent of movement is approximately 20 each side of the vertical axis which makes it possible to have the bottle in nipple down position as shown in full lines at such an angle that the entire contents of the bottle drains toward the nipple, or in nipple up position so that the contents will flow to the other end of the bottle, hold the bottle in the dot and dash line position of Figure 2, and keep the nipple out of contact with the bed covering.
Inasmuch as the parts iii and H are threaded together it is possible to shift the bottle about on a vertical axis and to raise or lower the bottle relative to the base. This is indicated by the different positions of the bottle indicated in Figures 2 and 3.
With this arrangement it is possible to place the bottle holder on the crib or carriage or other support on which the infant is lying down and have the bottle in position for the infant to feed or not, as desired. The bottle swings on its vertical axis so easily that the infant can readily move it out of the way should occasion arise, or move it back into nursing position at will. The parts are designed so that they may be made by injection molding and assembled without the use of tools. The parts may be packaged in a small box or container.
The form shown in Figures 7 to 10 is suitable for use by an infant in a high chair 30. The threaded member H and bottle clamp l2 are the same as before. The base 3| is longer and is arranged to be detachably secured at various positions to a hook shaped strap 32 adapted to be placed on the table 33 of the high chair and held in place by an elastic member 34.
Since it is obvious that the invention may be embodied in other forms and constructions Within the scope of the claims, I Wish it to be understood that the particular forms shown are but a few of these forms, and various modifications and changes being possible, I do not otherwise limit myself in any way with respect thereto.
What is claimed is:
1. A nursing bottle holder having a relatively fixed base, an element adapted to grip the body of a nursing bottle, and an intermediate member having a horizontal hole near its upper end and an adjustable connection with the base whereby the intermediate member may be rotated and raised or lowered relative to the base, the intermediate member having a horizontal pintle forming member entering the hole to provide pivotal connection with the bottle grip- V ping element and stop means engageable with the same to limit movement about the pivot.
2. A nursing bottle holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the intermediate member has diverging camming surfaces above the horizontal hole, and the bottle gripping element is resilient and the pintle forming members are spreadable by the camming surfaces and adapted to enter the hole.
3. A nursing bottle holder for supporting a nursing bottle of predetermined contour with the nipple down for nursing or up to prevent leakage, comprising a base having a central vertical bore provided with relatively high pitch threads, a threaded member carried in the bore for rapid adjustment up and down and ready adjustment about a vertical axis, and a bottle clamping member pivoted to the threaded member, the bottle clamping member having narrow upwardly extending spring fingers adapted to grip the mid portion of the bottle, the threaded member and clamping member being pivoted about a horizontal axis and having cooperative stops which limit the swing of the clamping member and support the bottle with the nipple up or down irrespective of the direction in which the bottle is oriented about the vertical axis of the threaded bore.
