Description

June 26, 1951 L. F. CLAWSON, JR 2,553,073
HAIRCUTTING DEVICE Filed Oct. 25, 1948 Inventor Zeal/as f'iezaawz jr.
Attorney Patented June 26, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE HAIRCUTTING DEVICE Lewis F. Clawson, Jr., Ramona, Calif.
Application October 25, 1948, Serial No. 56,275
2 Claims. 1
The present invention relates to a hair cutting device and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a hair cutting device which is simple in its construction and operation and yet effective and efiicient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hair cutting device which makes use of the conventional razor blade.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character set forth in which simple means is provided for adjusting the position of the razor blade with the edges of tines forming a comb which is part of the invention.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel blade carrying device which forms a part of the invention.
Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view, partly broken away, of an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken along line 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary elevational view of an element of the invention,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along line 5-5 of Figure 3,
Figure 6 is an elevational View of an element of the invention,
Figure 7 is a side elevational view of Figure 6, and
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken along line 88 of Figure 6.
Generally there is provided a hair cutting device consisting of a body having teeth or tines upon either side thereof and having an integrally formed handle extending therefrom. Slidably and at an angle to the body there is provided a blade carrying member which is adapted to hold frictionally against the tines and in parallel relation thereto a conventional razor blade. When the device is in use, simple manipulation of the thumb of the user bearing against the blade carrying member will allow the blade to be placed at varying distances from the ends of the tines thereby allowing hair to be cut at varying lengths.
Referring more particularly to the drawin there is shown therein a hair cutting device consisting of a body it having integrally formed therewith an elongated handle II. The body is formed along either side thereof with a plurality of spaced tines i2 and it.
One side of the body is provided with an angularly extending relatively wide groove l4 having inwardly tapering edges [5 and slidably mounted in the groove it is a blade carrying member is having tapering edges ll which interfit in the groove edges l5.
The inner face of the member I6 is provided with a pair of projections E8. The body is also provided with a pair of recesses l9 and 29 which are adapted to receive the projections Hi.
In operation, it will be apparent that a razor blade 2! may be placed upon the blade holder 26 in such manner that the projections [8 extend through the conventional openings in the blade. Thereafter the holder may be inserted in such manner in the groove i l that the edges ll lie beneath the overhanging portions of the body Ill, or, in other words, in such manner that the body of the blade holder is keyed and slidable in the body Hi. The user of the device will grasp the handle ii in his hand and by manipulating his thumb against the blade holder it may bring the edge of the blade 2| to or away from the edges of the tines or teeth I2, thereby allowing him to cut varying lengths of hair from his head.
While but one form of the invention has been shown and described herein, it will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a body having a key slot formed. in one side thereof, tines formed in the longitudinal edges of the body, a handle formed integrally with the body at one end thereof, a blade holder having a key projection siidable in said key slot and a blade carried by the holder in parallel relation to the edges oi the tines, said body having a pair of recesses and said holder having a pair of projections for mounting a conventional double-edge blade thereon and said projections extending into said recesses and said key slot being at an acute angle to the edges of the tines.
2. A device of the character described comprising a body, tines formed integrally at either side of the body, a handle integrally formed 3 with the body at one end thereof, a blade holder removably and slidably mounted on said body at an angle to the edges of the tines and a blade carried by the holder and having its cutting edge parallel to the edges of the tines, said body having a pair of recesses and said holder having a pair of projections for mounting a conventional double-edge blade thereon and said projections extending into said recesses.
