1. This invention relates to new and useful improvements in oil burner apparatus and the p mary object of the present invention is to provide an atomizing nozzle for oil burners where the v oil is fed to the nozzle under pressure.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide an oil burner nozzle including a spray valve so positioned Within the nozzle to facilitate the same to be quickly and readily removed therefrom without in any way effecting the normal efficient operation of the same.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an oil burner nozzle includin a floatable valve positioned within the same that is actuated by pressure entering said nozzle, when pressure is extended through the nozzle the floatable valve is actuated and driven to the valve seat and retained there until pressure diminishes.
A still further aim of the present invention is to provide an oil burner nozzle of the aforementioned character that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, small and compact in structure, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended,
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the present nozzle, and showing the same applied to the outlet nipple of an oil burner (shown in dotted lines);
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of Fig- Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 4-4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially through the center of the body element used in conjunction with the present invention;
Figure 6 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially through the center of the screen element used in conjunction with the present invention;
Figure 7 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View taken substantially through the center of the 1 Claim. (Cl. 299115) screen supporting member used in conjunction with the present invention, and,
Figure 8 is an end view of the fioatable valve used in conjunction with the present invention.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral l0 represents an externally threaded tubular body having an enlarged externally threaded head portion l2 that receivably engages the internally threaded nipple or adapter I l of an oil burner (not shown). This head portion [2 is provided with an internally threaded recess is that receivably engage the externally threaded end portion l8 of a sleeve 20 having a transverse bore or opening 22 and an enlarged hexagonal closure 24.
Loosely embracing the sleeve 20 is a cylinder screen 26 the ends of which frictionally bear against the head portion l2 of the body I0 and the closure 24 of the sleeve 20.
Receivably engaging the tubular body H] are the internal threads 28 of a hexagonal cap 3!! having a beveled valve seat 32 that opposes a complemental beveled valve seat 34 provided in the inner end of the body 10. These seats 32 and 34 communicate with a discharge opening or vent 36 centrally located in the cap 30.
Loosely positioned in the valve seats 32 and 34 is a spray valve 38 having a stem portion 40 that is loosely positioned in the body Ill. The spray valve 38 is provided with a double beveled head portion 42 and spaced parallel, spray slots or slits 44, that extend across the forward conical surface of a head portion and into the rear conical surface to permit a small flow of oil to pass through the opening 36 when the forward conical surface of the valve head is against the valve seat 32.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
An oil burner nozzle comprising a tubular externally threaded body having an enlarged externally threaded head portion, said head portion having an internally threaded recess therein, a sleeve having first and second end portions,
the first end portion of said sleeve being externally threaded and receivably engaged the threads of said recess, a closure at the second end of said sleeve, said closure being of a diameter greater than the external diameter of said sleeve, said sleeve having a transverse opening'therein intermediate the first and second end portions, a cylindrical screen embracing the sleeve about the opening and having its ends resting against the head portion and the closure respectively, an internally threaded closure cap receivably engaging the body and having a central port, opposed complemental conical valve seats provided in the inner periphery of the cap and one end of said body, and a valve member including a stem slidably received in said sleeve and a double beveled head floatably positioned in said valve seats, the inner periphery of said tubular body being flush with the inner periphery of said leeve to permit an unrestricted flow of fluid through the sleeve and the body, the head of said valve including a forward conical surface for engaging one of the valve seats and a rear conical suface for engaging the other valve seat, said head also having a pair of tangential grooves in its forward conical surface extending into the rear conical surface to permit oil under pressure to pass about the valve head when the forward conical surface is seated against its seat.
