UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
LIN-DLEY M. DOUDNA, OF CHESTER HILL, OHIO.
WELL-QU RB AND WATER-DRAWER.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 255,606, dated March 28, 1882. Application lilcd December 23, 1881. (No model.)
.To all Ywhom it may concern: t
Be it known that I, LINDLEY M. DoUDNA, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chester Hill, in the county of Morgan and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements lin Vell-Ourbs and Water-Drawers; and I do hereby'declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descripi tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or ligures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to well-houses; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of its several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the drawings, Figurelisa front elevation, andFig. 2 is a vertical section on the line m.
A is the well-house, and is provided with doors 0L in its front.
Pivoted at b, between the sides of the house, and resting upon the bars b', are the hinged platforms B. They are raised or lowered by the T-lever O, which extends below them, and has attached to its outer ends the rods c, which are pivoted to brackets b2 upon the under sides of the platforms, as shown. A handle, c', is attached to the upper end of the lever, and a keeper, c2, contines it closely to the side of the house, as shown.
In operation it will be seen that by raising the lever C the platforms B will be carried up wardly upon their hinges, and will allow the well-buckets to pass between them. When let down upon the bars b a narrow recess is left between the platforms to permit the passage of the bucket-rope.
In the upper portion ofthe well-house is arranged the raising and lowering device for the buckets. It consists of the grooved pulley D, provided with an axle-box, d, around the inner end of which is formed the beveled gear d', as
the gear d of the wheel D, as shown. Upon the outer end of the shaft is a crank,f.
G is the bucket-rope. It passes over the wheel D, as shown, and is held in place by the keepers g g, pivoted to the top of the bar E. Upon each side of the wheel H H are the buckets.
I is the pulley-brake. It passes through the 'bar E, is bent at right angles behind it, is bent again, and passes back through the bar E, and its end is adapted to enter recesses i in the face of the pulley D. l 1
In operation, asa bucket in its ascent reaches the under side of the platforms B it will raise them up and pass through them, after which they will drop back upon the bar b.
lf it is desired to hold the bucket at any point in its ascent or descent by engaging the brake I with the pulley D, it can be readily accomplished.
hat I claim is- 1. In a well-house, the pivoted shelves B, operating in combination with the Tlever O and connecting-rods c, substantially as. and for the purposes specified.
2. The pulley D, its axle-box d, and gear d', operating in combination with the axle d2, bracket cl3, lug d4, crank-shaft F, and gear f, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LINDLEY M. DOUDNA.
