UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEREMIAH H. TROUT, OF KINGWOOD, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ISAAC S. ORAMER, OF SERGEANTSVILLE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,781, dated March 17,1874; application filed November 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEREMIAH H. TROUT, of Kingwood,in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Corn-Plow, of which the following is a specificationz' The invention will first be fully described and then pointed out in claim.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved corn-plow on the line a; x of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
A represents a triangular frame, which is mounted on the double-cranked and two-part axle B B, for the purpose of raising and lowering the plows to regulate their depth; also, to lift them entirely out of the ground, and also to lift one side more or less than the other. To each part B of the cranked axle is attached a hand-lever, O, and a foot-lever, D, for enabling the driver to use both hand and foot for raising the frame and the plows. The handlever works by the side of a curved notched holding-bar, E, and has a slide-bolt, F, with a spring for engaging it with the bar, and an elbow-lever,Gr, and connecting-rod H for pulling it out. The foot'levers are arranged directly in front of the seat J, and the handlevers a little to the side of it, to be reached readily. K and L represent the two parts of the plow-stocks, which are jointed together by a pivot, M, to swing out for the protection of the cam when they run too near. N represents the foot-treadles for swinging them out, by pressing said treadles down, and represents the spring for throwing them back. 1? represents the draft-bars, which are attached to the frame at Q, and run along through slots in the plow-stocks, and are connected to the stock by wooden pins R, which are prepared in respect of their strength, so as to break readily if the plows encounter too great resistance, and the stocks are pivoted to the frame at S, so as to swing back in case the pins break.
The middle shovel, shown in the drawing, is, of course, not used with the shovels and jointed standards, but only whenthe same frame is employed as an ordinary cultivator.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a shovel-standard in two parts, K L, and jointed to allow an outward lateral movement to the lower part, with a spring on the outside and a lever on the inside, to enable the plow to be operated in the manner described.
JEREMIAH H. TROUT.
