2 Claims. (01. 132-88.?
ence will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure: 7
Fig. l is a perspective view of the lipstick applicator constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an exploded view in perspective of the applicator, but with the handle in longitudinal Section and with the lipstick partially extended from its casing;
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view similar to Fig. 2 and partly in section of the lipstick applicator constructed in accordance with a modification of the present invention.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view similar to Fig. 1, but, illustrating the lipstick applicator constructed in accordance with a further modification of the present invention.
Fig. 6 is a View similar to Fig. 5, but with the lipstick partially extended.
. Fig. 7 is a side elevational view of Fig. 6 partly in longitudinal section.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the spatula to be used in connection with the form of the invention shown in Figs. 5 to 7.
Fig. 9 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of the lipstick applicator constructed in accordance with a still further modification of the present invention.
The lipstick applicator, according to the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3, includes a handle 20 and a lip form member 2|. Both the handle 20 and the lip form member 2! are formed of a resinous plastic material, but if desired they can be formed of metal, glass or any other similar material. In choosing a material for making the handle and the lip form member, it is essential that the material used for making the lip form member 2| have an affinity for conventional lipstick materials as it is to have a coating of such ma-terial'applied thereto, as will become clear as this specification proceeds.
The lip form member 2| is preferably of a size and shape to conform to the outline of ones lips and is given a longitudinal curvature correspond ing to the lateral curvature of the lips. The convex side of the lip form member 21 is formed intermediate of its ends with a projecting post 22 of a size to have a force fit in a corresponding recess 23 formed in one end of th handle 20.
details of the lipstick casing 25 will not be given in this specification as the constructional details of such lipsticks are generally known to those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains and form no part of the [present invention.
4 her 2| has a force fit in the recess 23 in the handle 2|].
In Fig. 8, there is illustrated a spatula 30 which is to be used for spreading the lipstick material from the extended end thereof evenly over the exposed face of the lip form member 2|. The spatula is preferably formed of a resinous plastic material and comprises a handle 3| formed at one end with a curved spreading tip 32.
The manner of the lipstick applicator shown in Figs. 5 to 8 is as follows:
' Gripping the handle 2|], the knob 26 is turned in a direction to slightly extend the free end of In actual practice, it is proposed toprovide the lip form members in a number of different sizes, shapes and degrees of longitudinal curvatureso that a prospective customer can pick a desired lip form member and mount it on a handle having the desired shade of lipstick 21, by merely pressing the post 22 into position in the recess 23 of the handle 20.
The manner of using the lipstick applicator constructed in accordance with the first form of this invention is as follows:
The lipstick casing 25 is withdrawn from the cavity 24 in the handle 20 andthe lipstick 2'! is partially extended as shown in Fig. 3, by rotating the knob 26 relative to the casing 25. Using the partially extended lipstick 21 an even thin coating of the lipstick material is then applied to the exposed face of the lip form member 2|. After the coating has been applied, the coated side of the lip form member 2| is pressed firmly against the lips in much the same manner as an inked rubber stamp is used, to transfer the lipstick material to the lips in a thin even coat.
After the lipstick has been applied to the lips, the lipstick casing 25" is returned to it position in the cavity 24 of the handle 2|] and the assembly stored in ones pocketbook or other place until it is to be used again.
In the modification of the invention shown in Fig. 4, the post 22 of the lip form member 2| is provided with threads corresponding to threads formed in the recess 23" of the handle 20 to more securely connect the lip form member 2| to the handle 20. t
In other respects this form of the invention is the same as that shown in Figs. 1 to 3 and like reference numerals are used to identify like parts throughout.
In the further modification of'the invention shown in Figs. 5' to 8, the construction of the lipstick applicator is again similar to that shown in Figs. 1 to 3, except that in this modification it is not necessary to remove the lipstick casing 25 from the cavity 24 in the handle 20 to apply the lipstick material to the exposed face of the lip form member 2 vIn this form of the invention, the lip form member 2| and the post 22 are formed with a hole 28 arranged concentrically within the cavity 24 of the handle 20. Likewise, the handle 20 is formed with a hole 29 between the adjacent ends of the cavity 24 and the recess 23 in which the post 22 is engaged. The holes 28 and 29-are arranged in end alignment and have a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the lipstick 21. Thus, when the knob 26 is turned to extend the lipstick 21, its free end will be extended through the aligned holes 28 and 29, as clearly shown in Figs. 6 and 7. The post 22 of the lip form memthe lipstick 2'! through the holes 28 and 29, as
- shownin 'Figsr6 and '7. The spatula 30 is then used to evenly spread the lipstick material over the exposed face of the lip form member 2|. After the lipstick material has been applied in an even coat to the lip form member 2|, it is pressed evenly against the lips to transfer the lipstick material to the lips in an even coat.
After being used, the knob 26 is then turned in a direction to retract the lipstick 21 into the lipstick casing 25'.
In other respects the form of the invention shown in Figs. 5 to 8 is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 to 3 and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
The modification of the invention shown in Fig. 9 is characterized by alip form member 40 formed of a resinous plastic material and having a size, shape and longitudinal curvature corresponding to that of the human lips. The back or convex face-ofthe lip form member 40 is integrally formed with a boss 4| having an internally threaded recess 42. A handle 43 is formed with a threaded end which is threadedly received in the recess 42 of the boss 4| securely but removably connecting the lip form member 40 to the handle.
The applicator in accordance with the form of the invention shown in Fig. 9, is to have the exposed face of its lip form member 40 coated with lipstick material from a separate lipstick and then be pressed against the lips as described in connection with the previous forms of the present invention.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of our invention, it is to be understood that we do not limit ourselves to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by United States Patent is:
l. A lipstick applicator, comprising a handle, a lip form member mounted on one end of said handle, said member being removably mounted on said handle to be interchangeable with lip forms of different sizes andv shapes, said handle being formed with a recess in one end thereof, said recess having a depth less than the depth of the said one end, a post formed on said lip form member and engaged in said recess forming said removable mounting, said handle having a cavity extended in from its end on which said lip form member is mounted, and a lipstick mounted in said cavity, said handle being formed with a hole connecting said recess and said cavity, said lip form member and post being formed with a hole aligned with said first hole, whereby said lipstick can be extended through said 5 holes to project slightly beyond the exposed face of said lip form member. 1
2. A lipstick applicator, comprising a handle having a recess extended in from one end thereof, a lip form member, a post on saidrlipeform 5 member and extended into said recess said handle having a cavity extended in from its other end, and an extendable lipstick positioned in said cavity, said recess and cavity having their adjacent ends separated by a wall, said walk-being formed with a hole aligned with-said1'post and lipstick, said post and lip form member having a hole in alignment with said first hole, soj-that said lipstick can be extended through said" holes.
