Description
Patented May 7, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT oEFlcE i 2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in cosmetic applicators, and more particularly to means for applying lipstick material to the lips.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention.
an embodiment thereof is shown in the drawing,
in which: A
Figure 1 is an elevational view, partly broken away, of a cosmetic applicator constructed in accordance with my invention;
Flg. 2 is a fragmentary, elevational view, illustrative of the manner of using my improved `cosmetic applicator; and
Fig. 3 is an elevational view, partly in section, showing the manner in which my improved cos-V metic applicatorV may be associated with a lip stick crayon. u
With reference to Fig. 1, my improved cosmetic applicator comprises an elongated plate I0 made of metal or any other suitable, relatively rigid material. The longitudinal edge I2 of the plate III is shaped as shown, to conform to the contour of the upper lip i4. The other and opposite lon. gitudinal edge I6 of the plate Il may be shaped as shown, to conform to the con-tour of the lower lip Il.
'5 The front surface zo of the pme I a is shaped'to conform to the upper lip I4 when the plate I0 is pressed against the same, as shown in Fig. 2.
The cap or casing 22 for a lipstick crayon 2l may serve as the means for supporting 'and manipulating the plate IIl- In such'case, I propose to pivotally connect the plate III -to the upper end of a standard 26 flxed with respect to the casing 22. 'I'he pivotal connection is made by a pin- 28 with which the plate I0 is provided at the back surface thereof. The head of the pin is riveted over as shown in Fig. 2, to make a fairly tight, pivotal connection so that the plate I0 will hold its angular position with respect to 40 the standard 20.
When not in use, the plate I0 is turned to the position shown in Fig. 3 so that a protective cover 30 may be placed over the plate andpushed onto rthe adjacent end of the casing 22 with a In using my improved cosmetic applicator, the cover 30 is removed and the plate Ill turned to the position shown in Fig. 1. The crayon 24 is withdrawn from its casing 22, and a uniform coating of the lipstick material is applied to the front surface 20 of the plaate I0. The casing 22 serving as a handle, the plate I0 is now pressed against the upper lip I4, as ilhlltrated in Fig. 2,
with the plate in position so that the longitudinal edge I2 is in position to form a perfect lip contour, The lipstick material is thus transferred to the lip. Transfer of the lipstick materialmight 'be facilitated .by giving the casing or handle 22 a slight downward movement.
I claim as my invention:
1. A cosmetic applicator comprising a relatively rigid and elongated plate having a longitudinal edge thereof shaped -to conform to theC 10 contour of the upper lip, means for supporting said plate and providing a handle for manipulating the same, saidsupporting means being provided at one end thereof with a standard, means for connecting said plate to the free end l5 of said standard and adapted to permit placement of said plate in position substantially in alignment with the respective longitudinal axes of said standard and said supporting means, and a protective covering member having one end 2g thereof open for placement over said plate and said standard to protect the same and for fitting relation with respect to the adjacent end of said supporting means whereby said covering member and said supporting means are held in com- 25 blned relation with respect to each other.
2. A cosmetic applicator comprising a relatively rigid and elongated plate havin-g a longitudinal edge thereof shaped to conform to the contour of the upper lip, means for supporting :m said plate and providing a handle for manipulating the same. said supporting means being provided at one end thereof with a standard, means pivotally connecting said plate to the free end of said standard for permitting either pivotal :m movement of said plate into position substantially in alignment with the respective longitudinal axes of said standard and said supporting means or pivotal movement of said plate into position substantially perpendicular with respect .m to said axes, said pivotal connecting means being relatively tight to hold .said plate in said secondnamed position thereof, and a protective covering member having one end thereof open for placement over said plate and said standard when said plate is in said first-named position thereof to protect said plate and said standard and for fitting relation with respect to the adjacent end of said supporting means whereby said covering member and said supporting means arelheld in combined relation with respect to each other.
