Patented May 29, 1951 PLUG CONNECTION FOR ELECTRIC CONDUCTORS J ohann Billeter, Zurich, Switzerland Application February 20, 1946, Serial No. 648,891 In Switzerland December 19, 1945 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a conductor cord attachment plug of the type permitting other plugs to be plugged into the device whereby several connecting or extension cords may run from one plug.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a plug of the type referred to which is very simple and reliable in use.
A special object of the invention is to provide a conductor cord attachment plug of the said type which is easy to assemble and protected against loosening of the electrical contacts and elements.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide means which ensure a safe clamping of the cable or conductor cord so that any mechanical stresses acting upon the cable will not be transmitted into the interior of the plug, i. e., to the terminals and contact members.
With these and other ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a lateral view of a plug with accommodation for two additional plugs,
Fig. 2 is a front view of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 in Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings in greater detail, it will be seen that the device comprises a casing consisting of two halves I, 2, clamped together by a double screw 3, 4, and a pair of terminal members each in the form of a Y comprising a contact pin 5 and two plug socket members 6, 1 formed integral with their associated contact pin and disposed at an angle of about 150 thereto. At a central point of said integral member the same is formed with a threaded bore in which a worm screw 9 is threadedly engaged for fixing the ends of the two strands of a conductor cord In which are engaged in a cross bore 8 of the terminal element. A double screw 3, 4, serves to clamp the two parts I, 2, of the bipartite casing together, whereby the cord 10 and the terminal members 5, 6, l are sandwiched in their respective positions between the said parts and the two strands of the conductor are separated from each other by intermediate portions II of said bipartite body.
I claim as my invention:
A conductor cord attachment plug, comprising two symmetrical hollow body halves of nonconducting material forming a cable outlet, a pair of integral terminal members each in the form of a Y comprising a contact pin forming the lower leg of the Y and two plug socket members forming the upper legs thereof, the hollow body halves including intermediate separating portions between the .two Y-members, screw means for detachablysecuring one electrical conductor of a bipolar conductor cord to a bore in the common center portion of the three legs of each Y, the center axis of the cable outlet and the center axis of the contact pins being disposed in the plane of division between said halves, while the plug sockets are disposed in planes at right angles to said plane of division, in such a way that two additional plug devices can be plugged into the respective pairs of plug socket members, through corresponding apertures in said casing, and screw and nut means passed through a central bore in said intermediate portions, for clamping together the two body halves, whereby said cord and said terminal members are sandwiched in their respective positions between said body halves and said conductors are separated from each other by said intermediate portions.
