Description

April 17", 1951 H. A; BUHL ErAL cHrLns GLOVE Filed sept. 1e, 194e Patented Apr. 17, 1951 .ICAHILDS GLOVE I Helen A. Buhl and William E. Buhl, Jr., ohicago, Ill., assignors of one-third to Charles B. Spangenberg, Chicago, Ill.
Application September 16, 1948, Serial No. 49,608
. I l y This invention is directed to childrens gloves including finger gloves and mittens.
Childrens gloves as heretofore made are eX- tremely difficult to put on a child and, after they are put on, they are diicult to'keep on. Small children are normally very active and as a result their hands and fingers are continually moving when it is attempted to put gloves on their hands. It is extremely difficult to get their `hands inserted through the wrist covering portions of the gloves and to get their fingers properly located in the hand covering portions. These difficulties are accentuated when the wrist covering portions of the gloves are constructed to t snugly on the wrists. On the other hand, if thewrist covering portions of the gloves are made sufficiently loose to alleviate somewhat these difficulties, then the gloves do not remain in place on the childrens hands and often become lost.
Theprincipal object of vide an improved childs glove wherein the aforementioned difculties are eliminated, wherein the glove Imay be vreadily placed on a childs hand, wherein the childs fingers may be readily manipulated into place in the glove, and wherein the wrist covering portion of the glove may be readily drawn snugly about the childs Wrist to maintain the glove in place on the childs hand and thereby prevent loss of the same.
In carrying out this object of the invention the improved childs glove is provided with an elongated opening extending along the side of the glove opposite the thumb sheath thereof from the outer edge of the wrist covering portion to a point in the hand covering portion adjacent the normal position vof the childs little finger. Thus the glove may be opened up and the childs hand readily inserted therein. The childs thumb may be readily inserted in the exposed thumb sheath of the glove and the fingers inserted in the exposed single large finger sheath in the case of a mitten or in the exposed separate nger sheaths in the case of a finger glove. The elongated opening is provided with a slide fastener so that, after the childs hand is inserted in the glove, the elongated opening may be quickly closed with the childs hand in proper position in the glove. The slide fastener also draws the wrist covering portion of the glove snugly about the childs wrist to prevent the glove from coming off and being lost.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to the accompanying specication, claims and drawing in which:
I l'fasten'erclosing the elongated side opening;
Figure 2 is a Viewy similar to Figure l, but showing the elongated side opening open to expose the interior of the glove;
Figures 3 and 4 are similar to Figures 1 and 2, but illustrating the glove of this invention in the form of a mitten,Figure 3 showing the slide fastener rclosing the elongated side opening and Figure 4 showing the elongated side opening open to expose the interior of the glove.
Referring rst to Figures 1 and 2, the childs glove, `a finger glove, is generally designated at I0. vided .with a thumb sheath I2 and separate finger sheaths I3. It also includes a wrist covering portion I4. The side of the glove opposite the thumb sheath I2 is provided with an elonthis invention is to proceiving the childs fingers.
o tion adjacent the normal position -of the childs I gated opening I5 extending along that side from the outer edge of the wrist covering portion I4 to a point in the hand covering portion II adjacent the little finger sheath I3. When the opening is opened as illustrated in Figure 2, the inside of the childs glove is exposed so that the chi1ds hand may be readily inserted therein and so that the childs thumb and fingers may be readily inserted in the exposed thumb and finger sheaths I2 and I3. Y
The elongated side opening I5 is provided with a conventional slide fastener including interlocking members I6 and a slide element I'I. When the childs hand is inserted in the glove in the aforementioned manner the slide fastener may then be manipulated to close quickly the elongated opening with the childs hand in proper position in the glove. The slide fastener also draws the wrist covering portion I4 of the glove snugly about the childs wrist to prevent the glove from coming off and being lost. The finger glove maybe formed of any suitable material and it is shown to be formed of a knitted material.
In Figures 3 and 4 the childs glove of this invention is generally designated at 20 and comprises a mitten as distinguished from a nger glove. Here the childs mitten 20 includes a hand covering portionl 2I provided with a thumb sheath 22 and a' large finger sheath 23 for re- It is also provided with a wrist covering portion 24, land an elongated side opening 25 opposite .the thumb sheath 20 and extending from the edge of the wrist covering portion to a point in the hand covering porlittle finger. Here as in the other form of the in- Y vention the childs hand may be readily inserted It includes a hand covering portion II proin the mitten when the elongated side opening thereof is opened and the thumb and fingers properly positioned in the thumb and finger sheaths 22 and 23. The elongated opening 25 is also provided with a slide fastener consisting of interlocking members 26 and the slide element 2l for closing the mitten when the childs hand is properly inserted therein. Here as in the previous form of the invention, the slide fastener also operates to draw snugly the wrist covering portion 24 about the childs wrist to maintain the mitten in place on the childs hand. I-Ie're as in the other form of the invention,` the childs mitten may be made of anysuitable material.
While for purposes of illustration two forms of this invention have been disclosed, other` `for-ms thereof may become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to this disclosure, and therefore, this invention is to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
We claim as our invention:
1. Achilds glove comprising, a hand covering portion including a thumb sheath, a wrist covering portion, an elongated opening extending along the side of the glove opposite. the thumb sheath from the outer edge of the wrist covering portion to a point on the hand covering'portion adjacent the normal position of the childs little iinger to open .and interiorlyfexpose the glove and thumb sheath foi' readily inserting the childs hand in the glove, and a slide fastener for closing the opening rafter the childs hand is inserted in the glove and for drawing `the wrist covering portion of the glove snuglyoa'bout the childs wrist.
2. A childs finger glove comprising, a hand covering portion including thumb and iinger sheaths, a wrist covering portion, an elongated opening extending along the side of the glove vopposite the thumb .sheath from the outer edgeof the wrist covering portion to a point in the hand 40 covering portion adjacent the little finger sheath 4 to open the glove and interiorly expose the thumb and nger sheaths for readily inserting the childs hand into the glove with the thumb and fingers in the thumb and nger sheaths, and a slide fastener for closing the opening after the childs hand is inserted in the glove and for drawing the Wrist covering portion of the glove snugly about the childs Wrist.
3. A ohilds mitten comprising a hand cover- 'ing portion including a thumb sheath and a single largenger sheath, a wrist covering portion, an 'elongated opening extending along the side of themittenoppositethe thumb sheath from the outerredges fofthei wrist covering portion to a point in the-hand covering portion adjacent the normal position ofthe childs little nger to open the glove and interiorly expose the thumb and finger` sheaths for readily inserting the childs hand in the mitten with the thumb and fingers in the thumb 'and nger sheaths, and a slide fastener for closing vthe opening after the -childs .handis inserted inthe mitten and vfor drawing the wrist covering'portion of the mitten snugly about the childs wrist.
