This invention relates to a bun, or roll slicing machine.
An object of this inventionis to provide a slicing machine for buns or rolls whereina cut is made partially through the article, the machine including an adjustable guide means whereby different sizes of articles may be sliced.
Another object of this invention is toprovide in a slicer of this kind an improved mounting for securing to the motor, so that the slicer housing may be rigidly secured to the motor and will enclose one end of the'motor so that bread particles will not enter the motor casing.
A further object of this invention is to provide in a slicing machine an'improved gate or guide for the articles including supports for the gate or guide and bushings for the supports which are removable in the housing sections.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawing, the numeral I designates generally a conventional motor I I! which is mounted on a base I I having a cushioned foot l2. rn-otor III with the base I I, is adapted to be mounted adjacent one edge of a supporting member I3 which may be a table or the like, the purpose for which will be hereinafter described.
A housing generally designated as I4, is mounted on the forward end of the motor Ill and comprises complementary housing members I and I6 which are secured together by means of bolts 1 Claim. A vertically disposed and adjustable gate or inner guide 33 is disposed within the guide 30 being of transversely arcuate configuration and flared at the upper and lower ends 34- and '35 respectively. The adjustable guide 33 has secured thereto, adjacent the upper and lower ends thereof, a pair of supporting rods 36 and 31 which slidably engage in the upper and-lower bushings or bearings 38' and 39 respectively. Each bearing, as shown in Figure 4, includes a reduced inner bushing 40 engaging in a bore II and a set screw 42 is threaded through an enlarged boss 43 and projects through the reduced bushin 40 and is adapted to bear against a supporting rod-36 and 31 so as to firmly secure the supporting rod in horizontally adjustable position and at the same time to hold the bushing against endwise movement. As shown in Figure 2, the upper and lower ends of the guide 30 are flared outwardly, as shown at 44 and 45 respectively, so that the articles may be readily inserted into the guide 30 and so that if desired the housing I4 may be reversed as toreverse the position of the guide '30 with respect to the motor I0.
a In the use and operation of this device, the motor Ill and the base II are mounted on the table or'other plane surface with the guide pro-. jecting from the edge of the table or plane surface I 3. The adjustable gate or inner guide 33 is adjusted within the guide 30 so asto provide the desired guiding channel for guiding the bun or roll past the cuttin blade 25. As herein disclosed, the gate or adjustable guide 33 is adjusted for use of the long frankfurter rolls. As the articles move downwardly through the guide 30, they will pass the rotating cutting blade 25 and will be split by this blade leaving a small portion of the article uncut so as to form a hinge. Where it is desired to split the round hamburger rolls, the gate or guide 33 is adjusted to the right as viewed in Figures 2 and 3 so that these larger rolls can readily and freely slide downwardly through the guide 30.
I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.
I claim:
A bun slicing machine comprising a power member, a circular cutter rotatable by said member, a housing enclosing said cutter, an annular flange carried by said housing engaging about one end of said member, a tubular vertical bun guide carried by said housing, said guide having parallel straight side walls equidistantly spaced on opposite sides of said cutter, said side walls being connected by oppositely concaved end walls of identical radius of curvature, one of said end walls being provided with a longitudinally extending slot through which said cutter extends to' a point adjacent, but spaced from, the other I of said end walls, said slotted end wall being provided with apertures above and below the slot, bushings in said slot, upper and lower slide members extending through said bushing and a transversely arcuate movable guide member extending the full length of said guide secured to said slide members, said movable guide member being convexed relative to said slotted end Wall and of the same radius of curvature, and provided with a second slot aligned with the slot in said end wall through which said cutter extends, whereby movement of said slide member varies the relative position of said guide and hence the cross sectional area of said tubular guide, and said other end member and said guide coact to center a bun passed through said tubular guide and insure a centered cut by said cutter.
