This invention relates to tie rods for concrete forms, and the object of the invention is primarily to devise a cluster connector which is readily connected to a vertical rod or pipe to which tie rods are easily connected and adjusted to desired position relative to the form.
These and other objects are attained by means of the hereinafter described construction. In the drawings, which illustrate the invention, by way of example,
Figure 1 is a vertical cross section through a concrete form, showing the tie rod and cluster connector, partly in side elevation with two tie rod securing means in side elevation and partly in section, and showing the eyes only of five other tie rod securing means 'in position;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the cluster connector shown in Figure 1, showing eight tie rod securing means in position;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the cluster connector.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
The connector is shown in position relative to the sides I and 2 of a form for concrete. The connector comprises a main or body member 3 having two internally threaded central holes therein, one at the top and one at the bottom thereof, to receive the externally threaded ends of vertical rods 4 and 5. Tie rod securing members 6 are provided with eyes at one end thereof adapted to pass around the body member 3.
The body member 3 is externally threaded and nuts 7 and 8 are threaded into the lower and upper ends, the lower nut 1 forming a flange to support the members 6 and the upper nut 8 holding said members 6 in position on the lower nut 7.
At the end of each tie rod securing member 6 remote from the eye is an internally threaded socket or hole into which a tie rod l may be screwed as shown on the left-hand side of Figure 1. Alternatively the end of each securing member may be also externally threaded, as shown on the right-hand side of Figure 1, to receive a spacer II and internally threaded to receive the clamping bolt [2 which passes through the frame member 2, the block l3, and the plate 14, and is retained in position by means of the nut 15. Some or all of the securing members may be externally threaded.
In this alternative construction the free end of the member 6 serves as a tie rod, whereas in the construction shown on the left-hand side of Figure 1 there is a separate tie rod l0 which screws into a connecting member ['3 which is externally threaded to receive a spacing cone [1 and internally threaded to receive a bolt I8 which passes through the frame I, a block [9, and a plate 20, and is secured by means of a nut 2|.
It will be observed that the tie rod securing members 6 are separately secured to the 'body member 3 and extend transversely therefrom at angles which are adjustedhorizontally by virtue of the pivotal mounting.
Various features of the invention have been described in considerable detail, but it will be understood that this is by way of example, and that various modifications are possible Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A cluster connector for tie rods comprising a pair of vertical rods each externally threaded at an end, a body member having two internally threaded holes therein adapted to receive the threaded ends of the rods, said body member having a flange at one end thereof, and a plurality of tie rods provided with eyes adapted to extend around the body member above the flange and to be retained in position thereon by said flange.
2. A cluster connector for tie rods comprising a pair of vertical rods each externally threaded at an end, a body member having two internally threaded holes therein adapted to receive the threaded ends of the rods, said body member being externally threaded at both ends, nuts threaded on the ends to form flanges, and a plurality of tie rods provided with eyes adapted to extend around the body member between the flanges and to be retained in position thereon by said flanges.
