Description
Feb. 2.7, 1951 v. HARAsTY 2,543,404
BOAT FENDER Filed Oct. 16, 1948 Patented Feb.. 27, 1951 UNt'TED STATES PATENT OHTFCE BOAT FENDER Viktor Harasty, Whitestone, N. Y.
Application October 16, 1948, Serial No. 54,920
1 Claim.
This invention relates to boat fenders.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a boat fender which can be extended around the i'ull extent of the side of a boat and which can be easily connected with the boat side at different locations therealong so as to provide a continuous protection throughout the entire extent of the boat.
It is another obJect of the present invention to provide a boat fender which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and convenient to use.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a, side elevational view of a boat with the body fender embodying the features I" the present invention mounted thereon.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the boat showing the boat fender mounted on the boat sides.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view of one end of the boat fender and showing the means for attaching the same to the boat.
Fig. 4 is a, cross-sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a top plan View of a fragment of the boat fender.
Referring now to the gures, lil represents a boat which has sides which need to be protected by my boat fender Il. My boat fender comprises a resilient piece of circular section and as indicated at l2 which is suicient length to extend substantially along the entire side of the boat and which is of suicient diameter to provide adequate protection for the boat side. This resilient or rubber element is enclosed with a casing I3 which is sewed together at its ends as indicated at i4 and provided with a grommet l5 by which the same can be attached to the ends of the boat when passing a rope through the same as indicated at I6 and fastening the rope to a cleat il on the boat deck.
Adjustable along the casing I3 are holders i8 formed of strap and sewed together as indicated at i9. In the sewed portion there is provided a grommet 2l by which a connection can be 2 eiected by means of a rope 22 with a side cleat 2S on the boat deck.
It will be apparent that the holder E8 can be adjusted along the casing 39 so that it may be brought to a location where it is easy to connect to the same with a cleat 23.
While rubber has been suggested and indicated at l2 it Will be understood that any other resilient material may be used and provided within the casing i3 with equal efectiveness.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be Within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A boat fender comprising a core of resilient material, said core being adapted to extend along the side of a boat for a considerable distance therealong, a sleeve casing extended over the core throughout the length thereof and closed at its opposite ends, and means on its closed ends adapted to receive a device for attaching the fender to the boat, and means intermediate the length of the core and sleeve and slidably tted over the sleeve for the securement of the fender to the side of the boat intermediate the ends of the fender, and said means including a strip of flexible material formed into a loop and stitched together at its ends, and a grommet in the stitched ends of the loop adapted to receive a rope for the attachment of the closed strip and the fender to a cleat at the side of the boat.
VIKTOR HARASTY.
