This invention relates, as indicated, to blouses, but has reference more particularly to the type of womens blouse commonly referred to as an over-blouse, i. e., a blouse worn over (rather than tucked under the waistband of) a skirt.

In designing half-size blouses for women of above-average bust dimensions, it has heretofore been difficult to design an overblouse which can be adjusted to properly fit such women, and yet retain a neat, pleasing and attractive appearance in all conditions of adjustment.

It is a primary purpose of the present invention, accordingly, to provide an overblouse of unique construction, which will enable the blouse to be properly adjusted to fit the person, and yet retain an overall neat and attractive appearance at all times.

Another object of the invention is to provide an overblouse which is characterized by a beltlike structure designed to conceal the meeting line or joint between the blouse and skirt of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is to provide an overblouse of the character described, which retains a neat and attractive appearance, while permitting slight upward adjustment of the lower edge of the front section of the blouse, in order to provide added fullness for the front of the blouse, and to compensate for variations in bust dimensions of women of approximately the same height.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an overblouse of the character described, having features of adjustability.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive of the drawings, the overblouse will be seen to comprise a front part or section 1, back or rear section 2, and sleeves 3. In this particular form of overblouse, the front and rear section are not sewn to each other in their lower portions, thereby leaving slits or openings 4 at the sides of the blouse.

Sewn to and extendin from th front section I, adjacent the lower portion of the slits or openings 4 are tabs 5 and 6, which tabs are adapted to be brought around and placed over the rear of the waistband of the skirt of the wearer. The ends of the tabs 5 and 6, after such placement, are in overlapped relation, and the overlapped ends are secured to each other, as by means of snap fasteners 1. By thus placing and fastening the tabs 5 and 6, the lower portion of the front section I of the blouse is properly and effectively secured to the body of the wearer over the waistband of the skirt. The tabs, when properly positioned, are substantially concealed by the lower portion of the rear section 2 of the blouse.

Sewn to and extending from the rear section 2, adjacent the lower portions of the slits or open:- ings 4, are tabs 8 and 9, which tabs are adapted to be brought around and placed over the lower end of the front section I. The end of the tab 8 is provided with a buckle l9, and the tapered end of the tab 9 is adapted to be looped through this buckle and secured to the tab 8, as by a snap fastener II. The tabs 8 and 9 thus form a band which overlies and substantially conceals the lower end of the front section 5, giving the effect of a belt over the skirt, and also serves to some extent to hold the lower portion of the front of the blouse against the body in a desired manner. This band also serves to properly and effectively secure the lower portion of the rear section 2 of the blouse to the body of the wearer, over the tabs 5 and 6.

The tabs 5, 6, 8 and 9 are thus effective to properly secure the blouse to the waistband of the wearer, the tabs 8 and 9 lending attractiveness to the blouse, while concealing, to a great extent, the meeting line or joint between the front section of the blouse and the skirt. These advantages, moreover, are maintained, while permitting slight upward adjustment of the lower edge of the front section of the blouse to provide added fullness for the front of the blouse and to compensate for variations in bust dimensions of women of approximately the same height.

By providing additional snap fasteners at the front and back, the extent or degree to which the tabs may be drawn up, before snapping the ends together, may be varied or adjusted.

In Figs. 7 to 11 inclusive, there is illustrated a modification of the invention, which may be termed a modified overblouse, in that only the front section thereof is adapted to be tucked under the waistband of the skirt.

In this form of the blouse, the blouse will be seen to comprise a front part or section it, a back or rear section l3 and sleeves M. The front section, in this instance, is of the button-front style, although this is purely a matter of style or design, having no relevancy to the invention.

The front section l2, has a lower portion [2' which extends downwardly beyond the lower edge of the rear section [3, and which extension is adapted to be tucked under the skirt of the wearer. V Sewn to and extending from the rear section 53, adjacent the lower end of the rear section, are tabs 15 and l5,'similar in general to the tabs 8 and 9 of the previously described form of blouse. These tabs 15 and it are adapted to be brought around and placed over the lower portion of the front section of the blouse, directly above the extension I2 of the front section l2. The tab It is provided with a button H and a vertical hole or slit H3 in spaced relation to the button II, and the end of the tab [5 is adapted to be drawn through the hole or slit l8 and detachably secured to the button H, the tab l5 being provided with a button hole l9 for this purpose. The free end of the tab Hi may be secured to the tab l5 by snap fasteners 28. The tabs i5 and it thus form a band which overlies and substantially conceals the waistband of the skirt of the wearer, giving the effect of a belt over the skirt, and also serves to properly and effectively secure the lower portion of the rear section it of the blouse to the body of the wearer. The tabs are thus effective to properly secure the blouse to the waistband of the wearer, and lend attractiveness to the blouse, while concealing, to a great extent, the meeting line or joint between the front section of the blouse and the skirt. These advantages are maintained, while permitting considerable upward adjustment of the front section of the blouse by pulling a portion of the extension [2 upwardly from its tucked-in position within the skirt, this for the purpose of providing added fullness for the front of the blouse and to compensate for variations in bust dimensions of women of approximately the same height.

By providing additional buttonholes I9, and additional snap fasteners 20, the extent or degree to which the tabs i5 and 18 may be drawn up, may be varied or adjusted.

It is to be understood that the forms of my invention, herewith shown and described, are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to,without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a blouse of the character described, a front section, a rear section, tabs extending from the lower portion of the front section and adapted to be brought into underlying relationship to the lower portion of the rear section, and tabs extending from the lower portion of the rear section and adapted to be brought into overlying relationship to the lower portion of the front section.

2. In a blouse of the character described, a front section, a rear section, said front section. having an extension extending below the lower edge of the rear section and adapted to be tucked into the skirt of the wearer, and tabs extending from the lower portion of the rear section and adapted to be brought into overlying relationship to the lower portion of the front section.

3. A blouse, as defined in claim 2, in which said tabs are brought into overlying relationship to that portion of the front section which is immediately above a horizontal plane passing through the lower edge of the rear section.

4. A blouse or the like having front and rear portions of approximately equal circumferential dimension and being provided with adjacent free edges at the lower portions on opposite sides of the blouse, and separate elongated tabs each secured to one of said free edges of one portion and being normally free of the other portion, the tabs being disposed at the waistline, said tabs being adapted for connection across said other portion of the blouse.

5. A blouse having front and rear portions divided for a substantial vertical distance by a slit at each side thereof, and a pair of separate elongated belt tabs each secured to a free edge at one side of the slits and extending across the slits and positioned to be paced across one of the portions of the blouse, the slits being adapted to receive the upper edge of a skirt, whereby the rear portion of the blouse and the belt tabs can be disposed outside the skirt and the lower front portion of the blouse can extend into the skirt, the belt tabs being adapted for connection across the skirt.

6. A blouse or the like having front and rear portions of approximately equal circumferential dimension and having adjacent vertically extending free edges at the lower portions thereof on opposite sides of the blouse, and a pair of separate elongated tabs each secured to one of said free edges of the rear portion and being normally free from the front portion, the tabs being disposed at the waist line of the blouse and being adapted for connection across the front portion of the blouse.

7. A blouse, as defined in claim 6, in which the front portion of the blouse extends downwardly to a level below the lower edges of the tabs.
