BANG SHAPER Filed Oct. 25. 1949 I I: under Norman R. Merz/er I By 2mm Patented Jan, 23, 1951 UNITED STATES PTENT OFFlCE BANG SHAPER Norman R. Metzler, York, Pa. Application October 25, 1949, Serial No. 123,424
1 Claim.
This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in implements employed for assisting in cutting hair.
An object of this invention is to guide a pair of scissors while cutting bangs, the guiding being in a prescribed travel whereby straight and even bangs are out.
Another object of this invention is to attach a device to the head of an individual releasably allowing the front part of the individuals hair to hang over a plate, the plate having grooves therein in order to guide a pair of scissors which may be in part disposed in said groove, not relying solely or simply on visual guidance for the scissors.
A still further object of this invention is to collect the cut hair as it falls on a shield so that it does not annoy the individual Whose hair is being cut, the junction of the shield and the lower edge of the plate possibly serving as another guide for the pair of scissors.
Ancillary objects and features will become apparent following the description of the illustrated form of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention showing its use on an individual;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device shown in Figure 2.
In cutting hair, various operations take place. Hair may be cut in a great number of styles. One of these styles is manifest in Figure 1.
Bangs are being out. In order to shape the bangs properly, it is necessary that a continuous line from the left side of the head to the right side thereof be cut.
To perform this function there is a smoothly curved plate I0 provided of flat stock which may be commercial plastic, as phenolic condensate, or any other suitable material. Eyelets I2 and I4 are provided adjacent the rear edges of the plate I0 accommodating the resilient strap l5 which is adapted to extend around the rear part of the head of an individual as shown in Figure 1.
The plate H] has a continuous groove I6 formed adjacent its upper edge forming one guide line for a pair of scissors. A second groove I8 is provided therebelow and serves an identical function with the groove 6. The pair of scissors is placed in the groove [6 or in the groove !8 after the hair is combed down over the plate 19. This part of the hair may be out in a straight line by simply operating the scissors as they are moved in either of the grooves It or 18.
A hair collector guard 20 is formed integral with the lower edge of the plate It. A head 22 is provided around the outside edge of the hair collector guard 20 for strength of construction and also to act as an abutment for the falling hair.
If it is desired to use the junction 24 of the guard 49 with the plate if! as an additional g: ide for the pair of scissors, this may be done in that this junction forms an equivalent of a groove.
The recommended operation is however, to employ the groove [6 as a guide for the pair of scissors to cut a straight bang. If it is desired to cut a curved bang, it is suggested or recommended that the slot It be employed Since it is arranged with a vertical smooth curvature relative to the groove [6. In fabricating the device any number of grooves may be provided in accordance with the prerogative of the manufacturer.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A device for guiding a pair of scissors in shaping bangs comprising a curved plate with means for releasably fastening said plate on the forehead of a person, means in said plate for guiding a pair of scissors to cut the persons hair hanging over said plate, and a hair collecting shelf secured to said plate, the junction of said shelf and said plate forming an additional scissors guide.
