Description
(N0 Model.)
. A. L. H ILL & G. s. SIMPSON.
EGG PAIL. No. 253,866. Patented Feb. 21,1882.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW L. HILL AND GEORGE S. SIMPSON, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS.
EGG-PAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,866, dated February 2}, 1882. Application filed October '1, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ANDREW L. HILL and GEORGE S. SIMPSON, citizens of the United States, and residing at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg-Pails, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a new and useful device for transporting eggs; and it consists of a series of disks of relatively different areas, made with beveled edges and having different numbers of holes bored therein to receive eggs, and central holes of different diameter in each disk, in combination with a. standard constructed with a board base, a series of shoulders, and a knob, whereby the disks may be lifted together, and a pail having a cover of larger diameter than the bottom of the pail, as hereinafter described.
This device isillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section of the device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the standard and disks as they appear when removed from the bucket. Figs. 3, 4,.and 5 represent plans of each of the three disks, showing the number and position of the egg-receptacles. Fig. 6 represents the standard in elevation with the disks removed.
Similar letters representsimilar parts in the several views.
A. represents an ordinary two-hooped bucket in common use, and is provided with a cover, A, which may be secured thereto in any suitable manner desired for convenience.
B represents the standard. It is provided with a base, I), which may be of any diameter sufficient to maintain the standard in a vertical position when not within a bucket, and is further provided with shoulders I) b" and a knob, d, by which it is raised when placing it in the bucket or removing it therefrom. The shoulders b b are formed by the reduced diameter of each section from the bottom up, for the purpose of supporting the plates or disks at suitable distances apart when they are removed from the bucket.
0 represents the lower plate or disk, (preferably made of wood about three-quarters to "one inch thick,) having a central hole, 0, which is fitted loosely over the shoulder b" and rests upon the lower base, b, and is provided with eighteen circular holes, a, each formed to receive an egg in the manner shown.
C is the intermediate plate or disk, having a central hole, 0, which is fitted loosely over the shoulder b and rests uponthe shoulder b. Itis provided with circular holes a, formed to receive an egg.
0" is the upper plate or disk, having central hole, 0, which is fitted loosely over the upper end of standard and rests upon the shoulder diameters they are supported by the inclined sides of the pail.
In the vertical transverse section, Fig. 1, each disk is represented as being divided on the lines 00 as, Fig. 3, y Fig. 4, and z 2, Fig. 5.
The hole 0 in the centerof the cover allows the upper end of the standard to extend up even with the top, and also serves as a ventilator.
We do not wish to confine ourselves to: the use of three plates or disks, as it is obvious that by rearranging the present number and inserting another disk its capacity may be increased.
We are aware that series of disks provided with rubber pockets (or pockets lined with other flexible material) have been placed around a central rod provided with shoulders, and that said rod has been screwed in or otherwise secured to the .bottom of the package,
while ours is provided with a broad support independent of the bottom of the package, and is in combination with other new features- Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The device for conveying eggs, consisting of a series of disks,- 0 G O, of relatively dif ferent areas, made with beveled edges, and A, of larger diameter than the bottom of the having different numbers of holes a a a pail, substantially as and for the purposes de- 10 bored therein to receive eggs, and central holes, scribed.
c 0 c, of different diameter in each disk, in A. L. HILL. combination with the standard B, constructed GEO. S. SIMPSON. with a broad base, I), a series of shoulders, and Witnesses:
a knob, d, whereby the series of disks may be S. F. GREER,
lifted together, and a pail, A, having a cover, JOHN G. DUPEE.
