i4 iGlalims. (Cid- 195) 1 This invention -*relates *to arsiravirrgbrush and hasforits primary object .to facilitate the.mas-
.saging and softening of the ".beard preparatory itush'aving.
.Another object isto simplifythe construction df ishav'ing .brushes and avoid the necessity of subjecting the bristles thereof "to the heat commonly employed when vulcanizing the bristles into the socket of the handle.
The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a handle having an axial internally screw threaded socket in one end, a collar having externalscrew threads at one end for cooperation with the threads of the socket, said collar having elongated longitudinal diametrically opposed slots therethrough, a follower adapted to seat on the end of the handle in which the socket is formed and bristle tufts clamped between the follower and the end walls of the slots remote from the threaded end of the collar.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of a shaving brush embodying the features of thi invention,
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view through the shaving brush illustrated in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an end view of a shaving brush embodying the features of this invention,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the collar employed to clamp the bristles in place, and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the fol ower which seats on the end of the shaving brush handle.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a handle I0 is provided at one end with an internally screw threaded axial socket II for the reception of the bristle clamping collar designated generally 12. This collar I2 best ilustrated in Figure 4, comprises a tubular body l3 provided at one end with external screw threads l4 which are adapted to mesh with the threads of the socket H as will be readily understood upon reference to Figure 2. Entering the threaded end of the body l3 and extending longitudinally to a point near the end remote from the threaded end are diametrically opposed elongated slots [5, the purpose of which will be more fully hereinafter explained.
Seated on the end of the handle I 0 containing the socket H is a follower designated genthe outer end edge of which is curved as at 19 to conform to the curvature of the handle [0.
ill
.In .use, a 'group :of bristles :21] "are introduced into ithe-ccollar IZywith the major portionfthereof extending axially "from "the .ucollar through "the "end remote from "the threaded end "l4 thereof.
.The opposite ends o'f thebristles are separated into .two separate groups ,or tufts 2| which ex- "tend through "the slots l5, and when'the collar is entered into the socket II, with th follower l6 resting on the socketed end of the handle l0, it will be obvious that upon rotating the collar relative to the handle that the bristles forming the be employed to massage the beard preparatory to shaving, while the group of bristles 20 may be employed for the application of lather to the face. By clamping the tufts 2| in the manner set forth, it is obvious that the necessity of vulcanizing the group of bristles 2!] in the handle will be avoided and the bristles need not be subjected to the injurious effects of heat.
While in the foregoing there have been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A shaving brush comprising a handle having an axial internally screw threaded socket in one end, a collar having external screw threads at one end for cooperation with the threads of the socket and being provided with annular end walls, said collar having elongated longitudinal diametrically opposed slots therethrough and being positioned in said socket, a follower seated on the end of the handle in which the socket is formed and having its ends positioned in said slots, bristle tufts positioned between the follower and the end walls of the slots remote from the threaded end of the collar whereby threading of said collar in said socket engages said. follower against the bristle tufts and clamps the tufts against the end walls of the slots.
2. A shaving brush comprising a handle having an axial internally screw threaded socket in one end, a tubular collar having external screw threads at one end for cooperation with the threads of the socket and being provided with annular end walls, said collar having elongated longitudinal diametrically opposed slots therethrough and being positioned in said socket, a follower seated on the end of the handle in which the socket is formed and having its ends positioned in said slots, a group of bristles entering the end of the collar remote from its threaded end and projecting outwardly through the slots to form laterally projecting tufts when said collar is threaded into said socket.
3. A shaving brush comprising a handle having an axial internally screw threaded socket in one end, a collar having external screw threads at one end for cooperation with the threads of the socket and being provided with annular end walls, said collar having elongated longitudinal diametrically opposed slots therethrough opening through its threaded end, and being positioned in said socket, a follower seated on the end of the handle in which the socket is formed and projecting through the slots in the collar and bristle tufts positioned between the follower and one end, a tubular collar having external screw threads at one end for cooperation with the threads of the socket and being provided with annular end walls, said collar having elongated longitudinal diametrically opposed slots therethrough opening through its threaded end, a follower seated on the end and being positioned in said socket of the handle in which the socket is formed and projecting through the slots in the collar, and a group of bristles entering the end of the collar remote from its threaded end and projecting outwardly through the slots to form laterally extending bristle tufts when said collar is threaded into said pocket.
