1 Claim.

This invention relates to dress ensembles for dolls.

An object of this invention is to provide a dress ensemble for dolls which is so constructed and arranged that it may be easily mounted on the doll by a small child.

Another object of this invention is to provide a doll dress ensemble which may be produced as a cut-out from a blank sheet, the blank sheet being hemstitched around the marginal edges of the dress parts, so that the dress parts may be cut out by the child.

A further object of this invention is to provide adoll dress ensemble which is produced as a cut-out from a blank sheet and which includes tie strings secured with the hemstitching, so that the dress parts when out out by the child along the hemstitching can be readily secured to the doll.

With the above and other objects in View, my

invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank cut-out embodying this invention,

Figure 2 is a detail front elevation of one of the garments separated from the blank sheet,

Figure 3 is a detail front elevation, partly broken away, of another garment embodying this invention,

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary plan View showing the manner of outlining the garment relative to the blank sheet,

Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary plan View showing the outer edge of the garment as it will appear separated from the blank sheet.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral IE designates generally a blank fabric sheet of suitable length and width. The sheet ii! is adapted initially to have marked thereon the design or configuration of a garment generally designated as H. This marking may be in the form of either pencil or chalk markings which will outline the outer marginal edges of the garment and the other portions of the garment which are to be cut out.

After the initial marking of the garment II, the sheet H! is subjected to a hemstitching operation, the hemstitching 52 extending about the outer marginal edge of the edges of the garment H, and the other portions of the garment,

In order to provide a means whereby the garment when out out may be removably secured to a doll or the like, a plurality of tie strings or straps i3 are laid across the marked edges of the garment I! so that the hemstitching I2 will also stitch the draw strings [3 to the garment I i. The garment I l is preferably a bodice which includes a straight center line of hemstitching Ill extending from the lower front edge [5 of the garment and terminating at its inner end in a circular row of hemstitching l6.

At a point adjacent the circular row of hemstitching 15, an elongated tie string H is laid across the surface of the sheet with equal portions thereof extending from the center line it so that the stitching along the center line It will pass through the transverse median of or across the tie string l'i intermediately or otherwise between its ends. In this manner when the threads are out along the hemstitching defined at it, the string ll will be cut at the transverse median thereof, thereby forming a pair of upper tie strings for tying the portions of the garment on the doll.

In the present instance, the garment l I also includes a lower straight rear edge l8 which is parallel with the front lower edge i 5. The blank sheet iii may also have marked thereon a second garment i9 in the form of a circular skirt, the outer marginal edge thereof being defined by a circular row of hemstitching 2B. The circular skirt is split, as indicated by the straight line of stitching 2! which extends to a point connecting an inner circular row of hemstitching 22 defining the Waist line of the skirt iii. A tie string 23 is laid across the inner end portion of the radial or straight stitching 2! so that the string 23 will be secured to the opposite free portions of the garment l9 when the threads of the garment is are severed along the hemstitching 2|.

In the use of this invention, the fabric sheet ii! is marked to the configuration of the garment or garments as shown at H and [9. The outlines of the garment are then defined by hemstitching, and after hemstitching, the garments l! and 53 y be cut out by cutting the threads 25 which disposed between the two rows of hemstitchthreads 25 and 28 as shown in Figure l.

After the garments l! and it have been cut out from the main blank sheet iii, they may be applied to the doll, the garments being removably secured on the doll by the pairs of tie strings 53, it and 23. As shown in Figure 1, the tie strings 13 are disposed with their outer ends lying across the outer marginal edges of the garment ii so that the hemstitching l2 engaging are 3 about the outer marginal edges of the garment will also stitch to the outer ends of the tie string l3 the garment ll.

With a cut-out as hereinbefore described, a small child will be able to cut out the garments for a doll or the like, and the cut out garment can be easily and quickly applied to the doll through the medium of the tie strings. This invention will provide an attractive and educational means for a child, in addition to being an article of amusement.

I do not mean to confine myself to the exact details of construction herein disclosed, but claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A doll dress cutout comprising a fabric sheet, a garment outline formed between the margins of said sheet by hemstitching, and a plurality of the straps disposed in overlying position with respect to the outlined garment, the ends of said straps being secured to the sheet at selected points along the garment outline by said hemstitching whereby cutting of the sheet through the hemstitching will sever the outlined garment from the sheet with the straps secured by the hemstitching to the margins of the garment, said hemstitching extending inwardly from a marginal edge of the outlined garment and terminating in a circular centrally disposed line of hemstitching, at least one of said straps overlying and disposed at right angles to said inwardly extending hemstitching at a point near the centrally disposed hemstitching, whereby cutting of the fabric sheet along the line of said latter named hemstitching divides said one strap into a pair of straps.
