Description

Dec. 5, 1950 J. RUETZ CONTAINER WITH CAP LOCKING DEVICE Filed Nov. 19, 1945 Patented Dec. 5, 1950 Application November 19, 1945, Serial No. 629,430 In Switzerland December 8, 1944 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to a container provided with a locking device comprising a locking clamp which is provided with pins engaging cavities on either side of the container and in which the locking up :cap is coupled to the clamp by means of said pins which pass through lateral openings in the cap.
According to the invention the cavities in said container provide a guiding-edge which extends parallel to the end surface of the container for guiding the pins of said clamp which are movabl mounted in said cavities.
In the accompanying drawing a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of the neck portion of a container provided with a locking closure according to the present invention, shown in the locked position, with the cap, clamp, and a portion of the rim of the opening in section.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line II-II in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan View of the container the looking device being removed.
Fig. 4 is a plan view according to Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a side view of the container the locking device being opened.
In the head I of the container according to Figs. 1 and 2 of which only the neck 2 is shown having a mouth-opening in the plane a-a, there are provided cavities 3 on either side. cavities provide a guiding edge 4 extending parallel with the plane aa. The ends of the cavities 3 are defined by limiting walls 5 which extend lengthwise of the container neck. The lower edge 6, which defines the remainder of the cavity, is offset downwardly and rearwardly to provide an enlargement of the cavity 3 indicated generally at 3.
Into the cavities on either side of the head i there extend pins 1 carried by legs 8 of a lockingclamp 9. These pins 1 are longitudinally movable in the cavities 3. The pins 1 are eccentrically fixed to tubular pins 1 which are arranged in openings it in lateral straps H. Ifhe straps H extend from a closed-cap I2 containing a packing l3.
The cap I2 is provided on its rear-end with a projection It and the locking-clamp 9 possesses a tongue :5 which may be moved in the closing position of the closing-cap and clamp and 4) under the projection i l to secure the parts in the closed positions. In order to make said movement possible, the openings ID are ellipticaliy shaped as shown in Fig. 1.
The limiting wall of the cavity 3 is provided These (Figs. 1 I
with a groove it through which the pins 1 can pass whereby the locking-clamp 9 together with the closing-cap I2 fixed to the latter can be taken off. In a similar way the locking-device can be reset.
The opening and closing of the locking-device made as follows.
In the closed position of the locking device, according to Figs. 1 and 4, the cap I2 with its packing i3 is pressed against the mouth-edge of the container-head I. This pressing action is obtained by the pins 1 on the locking-clamp 9 which, when the latter is moved down as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, engage the edge 4 and therefore press the closing-cap down by means of pins 1.
In raising the closing-clamp 9 to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5, the pins I place themselves against the forward edges 6 of the cavities 3 and the pins 1 lift up the cover !2 from the mouth-edge of the container, the pins 1' in the openings 1!] efiecting said lifting of cap I2 by a lever-action.
In moving the pins 1 along the edges 4 by means of clamp 9 the closing-cap l2 and the clamp 53 may be brought in a position'laterall of the head i (Fig. 5) in which position the pins 7 lie in part 3 of the cavity 3.
A special feature of the locking device described above is, that the outflow from said container can be easily controlled by means of the locking device in question.
For this purpose the clamp 9 is brought in upright position the cap being thereby lifted nevertheless remains over the mouth of the container as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5. When moved together with the cap i2 along the edge 4 of the cavities 3 as far as desired, the mouth is partially opened. In pressing down the clamp" 9 the cover-cap is again pressed on the mouth of the container, now covering it but partially.
What I claim is:
1. A closure for a container having cavities in opposite faces of the neck with the upper boundary of the cavities substantially parallel to the plane of the mouth opening comprising, a cap member, a strap depending from each side of the cap and each overlying one of the cavities, each of said straps having a hole therein substantially opposite one of the cavities, a clamp member having legs straddling said neck, a pin carried by each leg of the clamp extending through the opening in said strap for engagement with said upper boundary of the cavity, a tubular pin secured to each of the legs of said clamp member and engaging the opening in an associated strap, and said first pin being ec- REFERENCES CITED cemricany aliranged with reference to axis of The following references are of record in the Sam tubular file of this patent:
