SIEGMUNI) BRUNSVVIOK AND JOHANNES ENGEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.; SAID ENGEL ASSIGNOR TO SAID BRUNSWVIOK.
COMBINED FINGER-RING AND BRACELET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,998, dated January 31, 1882.
Application filed September 24, 1881.
. or as a bracelet; and itconsistsin a novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view; Fig. 2, a cross-section of the article closed for use as a fingerring; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device opened out.
A is the head-piece, which is hollow and made in any suitable form, and may be Set with stones or otherwise ornamented.
B B are thin rings attached one to another by hinges a, alternately at opposite sides, and to the head A by a hinge, b, at one end of the series, so that they can be folded together, as shown in Fig. 2, or opened out, as shown in Fig. 3. The outer ring, B, is provided with a 0 suitable catch, 0,1"or entering and engaging the head A, so as to form a secure but detachable connection. The rings 13 are of the diameter required for the finger-rings, and are as thin as may be consistent with strength, so
3 5 that when placed together they form a band suitable for use as a finger-ring. To retain them in this position the head A is provided (No model.)
with wings d d, hinged at opposite sides and recessed to pass over the rings B. These devices hold the rings closed tightly together 40 v and prevent them from separating.
For use as a bracelet, the rings B are to be opened out, which can be readily done when the holding devices dare raised. The sides ofthe rings being suitably chased, the article formsa handsome bracelet, and the ornamental appearance is heightened by the head A.
By this construction we combine two articles of jewelry changeable for use in either form and of unique appearance.
We are aware that a combined finger-ring and bracelet formed of a series of hinged rings is not broadly new, and we therefore do not claim such; but
What we claim, anddesire to secure by Let- 5 ter's Patent, is
1. In a combined finger -ring and bractlet, the combination, with the ornamented hollow head A, of the series of hinged rings B, hinged to the said head, and the outer rings of the series provided with a spring-catch adapted to enter the hollow head, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a combined finger-ring and bracelet, the combination, with the head A and the series of hinged rings B, of therecessed wings (I, hinged to the opposite sides of the said head, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
S. BRUNSWVIOK. JOHANNES ENGEL.
