Application November 2, 1949, Serial No. 125,020
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a property line cleanout soil fitting.
An object of this invention is to provide a fitting having sweeping curves, which enables the plumber to easily push tools through and around the bends of the fitting.
Another object of this invention is the production of a fitting that is easy to install, selfcleaning. and susceptible of being placed in different locations, as the plumber may find necessary. I
A still further object is to provide a soil fitting having a center portion which is substantially diamond-shaped in cross-section, and provided with two curved upper faces and a straight bottom face, in combination with a straight primary channel and. two curved auxiliary channels, the faces forming parts of said channels.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a soil.
fitting constructed in accordance with this invention, and showing said fitting in a general plumbing assembly.
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of the soil fitting.
Referring to the drawing, in which the preferred embodiment of this invention is illus trated, i designates the single piece soil fitting of this invention, which is connected at one end to the main house connection 2, and at its other end to the sewer connection 3, which last mentioned connection opens into the sewer 4. To the central upstanding portion 5 is connected the upstanding pipe 6, which pipe 6 extends into the curb box 1. This box I has its top registering with the top grade level or sidewalk 8. The curb box l is placed contiguous to the property line 9, Fig. 1.
The single piece fitting I comprises a straight, hollow body In that is provided at one end with an annular bead or flange II, and at its other end with a hub l2. Upstanding from the straight hollow body II} is said central portion 5. Formed on the upper end of the central portion 5 is a hub 13. Within the fitting I there is formed a division portion M, which is substantially diamond-shaped in cross-section, Fig. 2. In the body I0 is a straight primar channel 15 and in the upstanding portion 5 are two auxiliary outwardly curved channels [6, IS. The division portion [4 has a straight bottom face I! which is a part of the straight primary channel I5. The
division portion i4 is also provided with two upper outwardly curved faces 18, which form parts of the outwardly curved channels H5. The outwardly curved faces l8 extend at their lower ends to the bottom of face H.
This soil fitting is strictly for clean-out purposes and is adapted to he installed at the property line only. The sweeping curves constituted by the channel It makes it easy to push tools through the fitting when it is desired to clean or remove an obstruction in the pipe or sewer con- ,nections. The placing of the curb box 1 is desirable because the plumber can easily have access in this manner to the sewer connection without digging into the ground or pavement, which results in the saving of effort and expense.
It is to be noted that with this novel fitting it is possible to rod out the stoppage in the pipe or sewer, in either direction, all work being done at the surface or top grade.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairl fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A single-piece soil fitting including a straight body portion, an upstanding portion disposed centrally above said body portion, said body portion having a linear main channel extending from end to end thereof, said upstanding portion having an open upper end and a pair of diverging channels merging tangentially by continuous arcuate curves into the end portions of the main channel and providing a solid portion between the diverging channels having the curvatures of its sides on arco of curves tangential to the bottom of the main channel, the lower side of said solid portion being aligned with the upper sides of the end portions of the main channel, and the curved sides terminating upwardly in a sharp cusp.
