2 Claims.
Thisu invention relates to a toy revolver of simple and improved construction'.
An object of the invention is the provision of a toy revolver Vwhich will produce v intermittent noises and intermittently expel visible masses of finely divided solid material, such as talcum powder or the like, in simulation of an explosive discharge. l.
. Another object of the invention is the provision of a sturdy and durable device of the character indicated, which can be easily fabricated at lost cost from a minimum number of parts.
For the attainment of the above objects as well as such additional objects and advantages as may hereinafter appear or be pointed out, I have illus-` trated a'preferred embodiment of the invention inthe accompanying drawing, wherein:

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view, partially in section, of the barrel portion of the toy revolver and showing the operative position of `the internal parts when the revolver is discharging a mass of finely divided material in simulation of an explosion;

Fig. 4 is a side elevation with parts broken away of the magazine assembly for holding a charge of finely divided solid material.
Thecomponent parts of the device, with the exception of certain metal parts, can be conveniently molded from any suitable plastic material.
The body of the device comprises a forward barrel I0, an intermediate cylinder-retaining portion II, and a rear hand-grip portion I2.
A cylinder I3 is rotatably mounted within a cavity in the cylinder-retaining portion Il on a spindle I4, which is secured to the body of the device. The outer peripheral wall of cylinder I3 is cylindrical except for the external longitudinal grooves I5. The forward face of cylinder I3 is provided with a plurality of internal recesses I6 extending inwardly therefrom. Any convenient number of recesses I6 may be provided in the forward face of cylinder I3 and the recesses I6 are angularly spaced by equal angles. In the particular embodiment illustrated, there are six internal cylinder recesses I6 in the forward base of the cylinder I3 and the angular spacing of said recesses is 60.
The device is provided with a hammer I1 actuated by a trigger I6. The trigger I8 may be pivotally attached to the body of the device at the lower edge of cylinder-retaining portion be neath the cylinder I3, and the rotation of said cylinder is effected by the trigger I 3. Any suitable arrangement may be used to effect such rotation of cylinder I3, it being understood that such ar-.
rangement does not form a part of the subject matter of the` present invention, for which reason` the illustration of the cylinder-rotating arrangement has been omitted in the accompanying drawing.
The barrel I of the device has a longitudinal bore I9 extending therethrough from the front of barrel I0 to the cavity in cylinder-retaining portion within which cylinder I3 is rotatably mounted.
A plunger 20, having an enlarged rounded head 2|, is slidably mounted for reciprocating motion within bore I9 by means of an internal lug or eye 22 which is intergral with barrel Ill. The front end of a compression spring 23, interposed between eye 22 and heady 2|, abuts the eye 22 and the rear end of spring 23 abuts the inner shoulder of enlarged head 2| of plunger 20, thereby biasing plunger rearwardly until its head 2| contacts the front face of cylinder I3.
Each internal cylinder-recess I6 is successively located and temporarily held in the top position shown in Fig. l, in which the longitudinal axis of the respective internal top cylinder recess I6 is coincident with the longitudinal axis of plunger 20 and plunger head 2|. Since plunger head 2| as well as plunger 20 is rearwardly biased by the compression spring 23, the convex rear face of said plunger head 2| acts as a detent and yieldingly holds the cylinder I3 against rotation.
As cylinder I3 is rotated by an appropriate actuating means such as trigger I8, the plunger head 2| is moved forwardly and longitudinally to overcome the tension of compression spring 23, until said plunger head 2| clears the respective proximate internal cylinder-recess I6 and said plunger head 2| abuts the intervening, unrecessed portion of the forward face of cylinder I3, between two adjacent internal cylinder-recesses I6. At this point of the operation the forward tip of plunger 20 is carried to the forward limiting position of its reciprocating motion to strike against the magazine assembly 24, which is located at the forward end of the longitudinal bore I9 of barrel Ill, and expels a small portion of the mass of nely divided solid material stored within said magazine assembly in simulation of an explosion, as illustrated in Fig. 2'.
As the next internal cylinder recess I6 approaches the top position, the plunger head 2| is forced by the compression spring 23 into the respective proximate recess I6, simultaneously locating said recess in proper position and yieldingly holding the cylinder I3 against rotation until the operator desires to repeat the cycle of operation.
The magazine assembly 24 may conveniently include a hollow and rigid cylindrical sleeve 25 having an external flange or lip 25a for locating said sleeve at the mouth of the longitudinal bore I9 of barrel i0. The rear portion Zb of said sleeve 25 may have a reduced external diameter to receive the open end of an elongated compressible receptacle or sac 2G of rubber or similar material. This sac is filled with any nely divided solid material, such as talcum powder or the like. The open end of sac 26 ts closely over the reduced rear portion 25h of sleeve 25 to provide an airtight seal and additional means, such as adhesive, may be used to produce this seal. Alleap i2?, which has a hollow stem 21a of such outer diameter as to produce a tight, frictional t within hollow sleeve 25, may be used to complete :the magazine assembly 2d. The front wall of cap `2l has a small, central aperture 2lb to allow `'access of a portion of the nely divided material which is stored within sac 26 tothe atmosphere under the impact of plunger 20 as described above.
Magazine assembly 24 may be xed adhesively or in any other suitable manner within the' front end of longitudinal bore ISl of barrel i l. External angei'Z 5a on sleeve`25 facilitates rapid assembly bylimiting and locating the position of said sleeve 25 with respect to the front end wall of barrel I0. The ffront face of cap 2'! is preferably of larger diameter than ange 25a and may be provided .on its inner side with an annular recess Zflcto fit over said Vliange 25a to produce an airtightseal. The rim of cap 2 may be knurled to :assure'easy removal and replacement of -said Y cap 121 when it is necessary to recharge the sac 26"with finely divided material.
.-Sinceacertain additional modiiications may be made in the device of my invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all-matter contained in the foregoing description and shown in the accompanying drawing be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
Il. A toy revolver comprising a longitudinal hollow-barrel which has a mouth at its front end,
4 a cylinder located at the rear end of said barrel, said cylinder being turnable about a longitudinal axis, means for turning said cylinder, said cylinder having a front wall which is provided with longitudinal concave recesses which are angularly separated by planar portions of said front wall, said barrelhaving an internal member between said mouth and said cylinder, said internal member having a longitudinal bore, a longitudinally slidable rod which extends longitudinally through said bore, said rod having a head at its rear end, a compression spring coiled around said rod between said internal member and said head and biasing said `head against said front wall of said cylinder, said head having a rear convex wall which interts with said recesses so that the turning of said cylinder longitudinally reciprocates said rod, a resilient sac adapted to contain a finely divided substance located in said barrel forwardly of said rod, said sac having an open mouth-'portion at its lfront end, a rigid and sleeve-like mouth-piece fitted in said mouth-portion -a-nd also in the front end-portion of said barrel, an internal hollow stem member fitted frictionally'in said mouth-piece-and which has a flange .which externally abuts the front end-wall of said-barrel, said sac being dimensioned so that said ange holds said sac in position to be compressed by said lrod when said rod is ymoved longitudinally forwardly, whereby a vportion of the contents of the sac is expelledfrom the front end of said "barrel to simulate smoke issuing therefrom.
2. A toy revolver according to claim 1, in which the .internal wall of said hollow barrel is cylindrical and said sac is cylindrical Aand fits closely against said cylindrical wall save atthe rear end of said mouth-piece, said sac having an internal rib at-said rear end of said mouth-piece.
